TD Defense

I'm still awful at TD defense. Especially turning TD's. I've watched the videos, I've cried my eyes out in here and got some tips but im still sucking.

Hey devs, would it be incredibly difficult/costly/time consuming to add a turning indicator much like the grappling assist arrow? I feel like that would be a big help with getting the timing and animations down.

Re: TD Defense

Yh an indicator would have helped for sure, but it's not that hard to tell which way they turn. For now, just go into practice mode and set the AI settings to basic ground game and to use turning td's. Just let the AI attempt the td and practice defending the turns over and over. If it takes you down, get back up and let it try to take you down again. Drill it over and over for like an hr a day, if you have the time. Trust me...do that and it'll become muscle memory. I sucked at it at first too.

Re: TD Defense

Thats probably the only option I have because im sure no indicator will get in for 4.

I probably just suck, cause trust me when I tell you ive spent plenty of time in practice mode. I'm failing at 80-90% of my TDD even when it doesn't come to turning td's. If I ain't pre-denying...my butt is flyin' (thru the air and slammed to the mat)

Lol. Just keep practicing man. I'm sure eventually you'll get it. I sucked at it too at first. Its all about quick reaction time. If you can react quick enough, you'll defend the td...especially if using a fighter with good tdd. When they shoot just hold tdd as quick as you can and be prepared to flick up/down immediately. Make sure your only holding tdd and not flicking the stick until they turn. Cuz if you move the left stick in any way before they turn, you'll get taken down.

Pro Tip: Also remember elite wrestlers/grapplers can also chain wrestle on the cage, so same goes for cage tdd. Hold defense and be prepared to flick up or down right away.

Hope this helps...

Re: TD Defense

I’m new to this game and am awful at takedown defense, you say flick up or down while defending to stop turning takedowns , I assume you flick left stick? Is there a window? Does holding instead of flicking work? If I hold l2 and R2 does it drain my stamina? Thanks for any help

Re: TD Defense

I still get taken down about 40% of the time so not great.

Understanding range and also making sure I'm not aimlessly moving as much as helped. When I move around the cage I'm often already turning the left stick when I try to stuff the takedown and the controller registers it as flicking too early and down I go.

I've tried to get good at recognizing when I should only be low blocking because the opponent can't bit my head anyway. Basically kicking range. A head kick could still land but by limitwhat I have to defend it makes it easier to stuff the shot.

Re: TD Defense

I'm also terrible at defending turning takedowns, should I flick or hold the stick (or it doesn't matter)?

Re: TD Defense

I always post this when I see TD threads:

The biggest tip I can give is to stop pressing every single button/pressing either stick when you see a TD and immediately slam on L2 + R2 - you may think you're doing this and still getting taken down but check your thumb on the left stick, I was still holding it by mistake.

When you've slammed on L2 + R2 watch for turns. In answer to the Q above you should flick either up or down depending which way they turn.
