M21 CB to WR Matchups

First off, sorry if this has been talked about before. I am relatively new to being active in the Madden section of the forum.

But I'd like to know if there is a way to get your best corner to consistently matchup with the opposition's best WR. I feel as though a lot of times my number 1 CB is lined up with the other side's #2 WR. I wish Madden had a matchup system like NBA 2K has. That would be awesome. I guess for now, is my best hope to move my best CB to #2 on the depth chart?

Use the coach adjustments which are found in the playcalling screen. You have multiple options that dictate who covers who.

Go into coaching adjustments on your play call screeen and change corner backup matchups to BY overall.

Yeah, but they don't always work which is a problem. Far too often when setting cornerback matchups to anything, I'll have a linebacker covering Michael Thomas or Tyreke Hill in the slot, regardless of man/zone/match coverages chosen.

I won't go so far as to say they're broken, but they just don't work some times.

Thanks guys. That helps a lot. I will try it out and if it messes up too often, I may have to keep playing without the adjustments.

Put your number two corner at number one on the depth chart and move your number one to number two. That’s how you get the matchups right, not sure why it’s like that but it works for me.

As far as I know, defenses in Madden 21 have a hard-and-fast alignment rule that if a wide receiver is the last man on the end of the formation, a cornerback must line up over top of him. Note that a wide receiver in this instance is defined by the offensive formation, not the player that actually lines up in that spot; for example, using the TE Solo package in Gun Y-Trips, the solo TE counts as a WR because a WR normally lines up in that spot.

The implication of this is that if you want to consistently man up great receivers aligned in the slot with your best cornerback, you must match personnel - Nickel vs 3 WR sets, Dime vs 4 WR sets, etc.

At the very beginning of the Madden 21 cycle it wasn't like this - you could stick CB1 over top a great TE regardless of personnel - but this behavior was unfortunately patched out.

Why would they do that? Was there some logic for it?
