Is this the year we finally get a Carousel?

A recent conversation in the CFB board had me thinking about a Coaching Carousel again. When NHL got the feature not too long ago, we all assumed this was sort of a test run and Madden would surely get the feature.

Obviously it hasn't been brought over still. With CFB being announced to be releasing in the near future, it seems like even more points towards Madden potentially getting this feature added in.

We know it won't be a stretch for EA to not include the carousel in the new CFB game. Nothing would surprise us with EA anymore, but I would like to think this is a feature they worked so hard to get into NCAA 14 that they want to make sure it does return, hopefully improved, for the reboot of the series.

Given that NHL has had it for years and EA has more familiarity with the feature and should be more comfortable with it, is now not a good time for them to get it into Madden to not only lay the foundation for the CFB release, but to also be a major addition to quiet down the #FixMaddenFranchise crowd that will surely return if EA drops the ball again with the mode moving forward?

We all know Madden would get a big feature, it would get tested and tuned, then NCAA got it the next year. It seems like now is a good opportunity for that type of feature to return Madden to be fine tuned for the CFB release that will be here soon. It's a net positive for both games. It gives the franchise crowd a huge feature they've been wishing for for years, and it helps ensure the CFB dynasty mode is no less of a mode than what we had in 2013.

Given the bad PR with franchise mode and the effort EA has taken to patch in a decent amount of smaller wishlist items this year, it would seem safe to assume EA will not want to launch the CFB series with a lackluster dynasty mode. That would be a potential PR disaster.

With what appears to be a renewed focus on franchise mode, I think it is safe to assume dynasty mode will get its share of attention to. The coaching carousel is a huge feature that you feel any sports game about has to have at this point. I think CFB being announced to return is a perfect opportunity for Madden to get a feature like the carousel added into the game to not only benefit Madden, but for the CFB series as well.

EA needs to not over think NCAA. They need to literally port over the old product and update the graphics and physics for the initial release. It will make everyone happy and then they can work on additions.

Outside of graphics, physics and code flaws that can be exploited (like recruiting), it's a great game

IMO we will only get the Carousel this year in Madden if they have already been working on it for a while. With all the hurdles development teams have had to deal with for the last couple of years I expect that the Madden 22 Franchise improvements will be chosen based upon relative ease of implementation.

I hope it doesn't take this long but the Carousel may debut in EACF and Madden in the same cycle 2 1/2 years from now. I hope I'm wrong though.

This is the time of year when the most dangerous part of being a Madden player comes back... hope... lol. I would love for this to be in, as well as a realistic contract system, players demanding trades, better and more random progression/regression system, being able to start before the current year's draft, i could go on... hope for franchise in any videogame right now is so dangerous man haha. I've been watching the show forums since it's coming to xbox and seeing their comments about franchise in that game is eye opening. They feel everything we feel over here.

The off-season is the best time of year for being a fan of most teams. Optimism is at the highest point. Madden is no different.

If NHL didn't have a carousel, this wouldn't cross my mind, but given that college football is returning potentially next year, if not, then very likely in 2023, and that NHL added this feature recently, it doesn't feel like as big of a stretch to think it could finally be coming to Madden.

It is EA, so I won't be surprised if we get the carousel in the CFB release and it remains absent from Madden, but it seems if they were going to put it into Madden, this year is one that actually makes a lot of sense. This year and next year both do. Add in their "refocus" on franchise and who knows?

I think a coaching carousel is a great addition but here's the thing:

It has to mean something. EA could add a carousel that is nothing more than having a name listed as the O/C, D/C or whatever. It want it to impact the game and I want to impact to be noticed

If it doesn't do that then I don't want it

In the franchise deep dive for Madden 22 they mentioned coaching and staff management as one the areas they're looking to improve. I like the idea of using XP to buy coaching upgrades but the upgrades are pretty minimal except for the more scouting points and xp earned. The others under acquisition are hardly noticable. Just turn those into scenarios or use XP itself as kind of a currency. You have to balance getting upgrades vs using the xp to better influence a player to stay vs retire or a free agent to sign with you.

I'm in favor of giving what's there way more depth rather than some more superficial additions. I've said for years madden doesn't iterate on its additions. Besides some minor tweaks most features are the same as when they were first implemented. Scouting for example has been the same for years. The only change is that the rating unlocks prices have been reversed. Coaching skills have been the same.

Coaching carousel would be shallow if the coaches themselves have no depth.

Fully agree.

Coach Carousel has been a top community request for at least 4-5 years. One of the excuses has been since the coordinators aren't apart of the Coaches Association, they would have to individually license each coordinator. I could care less about real coordinators as long as we could edit them. The causal fan only knows the notable coordinators anyway. They could take the NHL approach with fictional ones. I still find it odd that NHL got coach Carousel before Madden.

But as you said, Madden implements features one year and doesn't expand on it. It's like only when a new feature is marketable, they'll work on it. They touted Scenario Engine as a big feature last year that they would build on, but didn't do much if anything this year. Traits haven't been touched since year 2 of implementation. For a game with bad AI and no tendency system, Traits could have made a huge impact
