ANA & LAK (DET, NJ and ARI are possible pickings too.)

How deep of a rebuild are you talking here?

Because I would disagree 100% on Anaheim and LA.

Ducks have:
-Solid prospects/future core: (Zegras, Steel, Lundestrom, Comtois, Drysdale, Jones, Dostal)
-Improved D-coreAdded Shatty to Lindholm, Fowler, Manson)
-One of the top goaltenders in the game (Gibby).
-A bunch of cap space next year (UFA's Getzy/Backes), and no major contracts to sign (Maybe 1-2 years @$5 mil for Getz)

LA has a boatload of prospects, like Turcotte, Vilardi, Byfield, Lizotte, etc., and a pretty decent d-core (Doughty, Roy, Walker, Anderson).

The rebuild is already essentially 75% done for you already if you chose either of those two teams.

I don't know how you say those two when there are teams like San Jose and Arizona in the league, that are absolutely f$$ked cap-wise, have farm systems that are essentially barren, have no 1st round pick next year (Zona), and have big money spent on underperforming players.

Yeah, I think San Jose is in a tough spot. About $30M tied up in 3 over-30 defensemen (who are still good and I'm not sure how hard regression hits in game) and not much in the system.

Not that they're quite there yet, but as a Penguins fan, the idea of riding out the end of the Crosby/Malkin/Letang era and finding a direction after that is intriguing (and terrifying).

Similarly, you could finish blowing up the Blackhawks and move forward without Kane, Toews, and Keith.

I'm thinking of giving it a go with my wings.
