Defensive PI no time remaining

So, I'm pretty sure the rule is the game can't end on a defensive penalty.

I was playing around and down 30-25, threw to the Endzone. Defensive PI was called. I accepted. The ball should be placed at the 1, with 1 play to go with no time remaining.

However, the game ended. This never happened to me in NFL 2k5 or I'm not sure ever. Is the game just unaware of this rule?

I actually got the onside kick, and then went down the field and that happened. I'm just bummed it ended like that, muh false hope.
