Bad AI DH Choices

The AI makes odd choices of who to DH and who to play in the field.
In my RTTS, the Indians have put
Greg Allen (79 spd, 84 reaction, 99 arm str, 75 fld) at DH in favor of lesser outfielders for several years in a row. This year, they have
Chris Vazquez (71 spd, 80 reaction, 47 arm str, 86 fld). That’s not even close! Greg Allen should be in the outfield every game he starts. His durability is 97. No injury risk or need to rest often. He’s a platoon starter anyway.
Vazquez’s arm accuracy is 38, so he’s got an all-around horrible arm. Allen’s accuracy is 77.

On my team, Tyler Naquin (57spd, 97 reaction, 97 arm str, 86 fld) is a platoon starter and DH’s, while an aging
Mookie Betts (56spd, 85 reaction, 68 arm str, 91 fld) starts in RF. Arm strength is a big deal in RF and Naquin can cover more ground than Betts. Naquin should definitely get the nod there.
Betts WAS a Gold Glove-caliber RF, but Naquin IS a Gold Glove-caliber RF this year (2026).
Betts arm accuracy is 90 and Naquin’s is 88, so not near enough difference there to even consider.

I’m hoping that the next-gen consoles will allow for better AI decisions in management of non-user teams.

Re: Bad AI DH Choices

maybe it's time DH was added as a primary position. it wouldn't help in every instance but I think it would reduce the head scratchers by half

Maybe not primary position. I could see secondary, or maybe even under the hood parameters for the AI. Best CON/POW of the lowest FLD/React and/or DUR ratings could be a start. It could create other roster issues, but IMO it's a place to start.

I’ve noticed this as well in previous years. That’s one of the many reasons I go with 32 team control now. Also, I haven’t noticed but does the CPU use the DH as a rotating spot to get guys rest throughout the season? I’d assume not, but that’d be a cool addition next year especially if the DH stays (fingers crossed)

Re: Bad AI DH Choices

From what I've observed, the AI will usually put the best hitting backup, according to depth chart, in the DH spot. Even if the highest rated player is a poor fielder, he will be put in the field because he has the higher OVR.

I dont think it takes fielding ratings into account as much as it should.

yep. that's probably the best solution. and also seems like a relatively easyish fix... if they only had another 10 developers to implement

Unfortunately this is a logic issue so next-gen won’t see an improvement unless the AI management code is given some love. Let’s hope there have been some priority changes at HQ so AI management improves across the board.

just a hunch but I'm assuming for the most part it'll be the same old status quo, with the priority being the low hanging fruit that is the lowest common denominator. what I'm really hoping is that some extra hands will be hired over the next couple years and spred the workload of the overworked at the Studio
