Benefit of Online vs Offline CFM

I’m just wondering what the pros and cons are for online and offline CFM?

I know the online will transfer over to PS5 or next gen.

Never done a online CFM, so looking for some input if possible.

Cheers.

Re: Benefit of Online vs Offline CFM

The only real benefit of online vs. offline for a solo franchise, other than the next-gen transfer you mentioned, is the "live start" option, where you can take control of a team at a specific week of the season, with all the real-world results to that point (including trades, draft picks, and player moves) already in place. That option isn't available offline.

Outside of those two specific things, there are no benefits to going cloud. Offline also carries the benefits of full 32-team control if that's your scene, better control over save points, and immunity to issues with EA's servers.

Re: Benefit of Online vs Offline CFM

Was strictly offline CFM up to this point but started my current Rams cloud franchise so I can transfer the save to next gen. The biggest positive for me is it prevents cheesing in contract negotiations and I would imagine the draft as you can't just revert to a previous save if things don't go your way. Example: My star receiver Cooper Kupp's contract is expiring at the end of this season, he rejected my initial recommended offer then when I upped the yearly salary/bonus by $1 million he opted to go to free agency. Not sure I'm going to win a bidding war for a superstar possession receiver in his prime. It just adds more suspense to those activities and enriches franchise mode.

I haven’t tested it in this year’s game, but in previous Madden’s simming was much quicker online. Also, updates to franchise can be made instantly (server side) and may prevent you from having to restart for them to take effect, which has also been the case before.

Just a note: this hasn't been the case for quite awhile. Online tuners and cloud-only franchise updates were a thing in M19, and very early in M20's cycle. Given the changes they'd been able to make to both cloud and offline franchises without a restart for the bulk of the M20 cycle, I'd be surprised if they had to go back to that model.

It's always possible it could happen again, but I'd put money on us being past that point.

Re: Benefit of Online vs Offline CFM

I always do offline because I can suspend my game until later without issue. With online, I always have to reload from an autosave when I return to the game because it obviously disconnects when I go into rest mode. I haven't seen the benefit of "faster sims" etc.

Honestly, the biggest downside of online is that you can't take control of a CPU team to help them if there are issues (or to create storylines).

The only significant upside is being able to transfer to next gen...and whether that's a big deal or not is strictly a matter of one's own opinion.

This is what I like as well. I can't rage quit like I do with NHL.

Also transferring my CFM to next gen is another positive.
