Icon5 Has anyone figured out how training/progression work?

Has anyone truly figured out how to get players to progress in MyLeague, or how in-season training is related to progression? I have been scouring the internet and it seems to be a bunch of people guessing even though this game has been out so long and is so popular.

I'm several seasons into a MyLeague, finally pulled together a great team including a A rated trainer.
We won the finals & I sent 4 starters to the all-star team (i simulate pretty much every game).

For some reason in the offseason, nearly everyone on my team dropped in OVR, regardless of age. My starters all dropped 2-3 OVR, and none of them were older than 28 years old!

Here's what I do in terms of training:
1. start of season I set every player to their optimal training type (i.e. SG-offensive)
2. i set training intensity to very high and keep a heavy workload the whole season, even if it does keep everyone tired or bring a few minor injuries
3. i pretty much only send people to untapped potential for training camp

To make this more frustrating, I figured 'maybe everyone is past peak' so I traded a couple starters away. My prior SG recovered all those OVR points during the season with his new team, while the guys I kept on my team are the same or worse.

Is this system really explained anywhere?

In myleague training always seemed OP to me. I don't have 2k21 though so can't confirm anything for that.

I pretty much do the same thing you did. At the player training to the optimal path. Starters get medium intensity as well as bench vets. Young bench players get high intensity and anyone with no minutes gets very high intensity.

I also make sure to have practice every day even before and after back to backs, found in the team training section.

Also I don't waste training cap on untapped potential. Perimeter shooting/defense and big man offense and rebounding are the only camps I use.

Does the boom only happen with gleague or can happen to any player during a season?

Just guessing here: Morale might affect ratings. Also, the Trainer is medical and I see it as a means of reducing injury.

Conversely, I read somewhere that the coaches affect player ratings. As someone who has played some type of basketball most of my life this makes sense. I was creating a roster and thought only of changing coaches' Offense and Defense. Upon reading I was definitely intrigued with coaches being more complete with updated Training ratings.

All that to say, Training and other ratings can possibly act differently depending on the personnel. This is a nuance I really wish Development would talk about and clarify. I really find Pat Riley and Danny Ainge fascinating because they should have a rating in just about every facet of basketball: Check RealGM.com to see what I mean.

I agree with a lot of what you are saying, but it doesn't seem to be consistent with the game.

Morale - my team's is lowest at the start of the season and increases throughout the season. Yet my players get worst over the course of the season, while dudes I traded away get better at worst teams.

Trainer - makes sense for the trainer to be medical, except the trainer level determines your number of training camps??? My trainer was an A+ and I had 4 camps, then he dropped to A and I have 3. (Is my team regressing because my trainer went from A+ to A????)

Coaches - another thing that would make so much sense if it worked! I have noticed that CPU teams in MyLeague often stick with bad coaches on expired contracts, never really upgrading their staff. Makes it easy for me to have staff with all ratings at least 'A-' yet my guys are the ones dropping hella OVR points

Unless 2k20 is the first time they used this development system, its kind of shocking that still nobody knows how it works. But maybe since the game is more of an MMO now it just isn't a priority

What were your players potential rating? I don't do the training and just sim and I will always see my players improve a little every year. But a lot depends on their potential. I love having a good trainer to get more camps to develop players. And spending time on improving potential for young players is a good idea imo.

I am putting the above on my blog: davez from the development team is a friend; maybe he will see and forward our concern.
