How do you set up TDs?

How do you all go about setting up your TDs? A lot of the time when I shoot, I get the animation where they’re holding your arm / head and can throw knees. I only really see success in pulling guard. GA feels a lot different compared to the previous games where you could typically get a guaranteed TD in some situations.

What do you all typically like to do? What should I look for?

Best to try takedowns from the clinch , if you are getting denied.

For me I shoot a double leg cancel to over under and pull guard sweep to full guard. .

Re: How do you set up TDs?

Hard to describe but I generally move toward my opponent throwing/feinting jabs then fade back and try to draw them to follow. If do follow and they throw any head strike then I immediately shoot. If that doesn't work then you can do the same tactic but wait for them to throw a combo. If they miss the first strike and you shoot under the 2nd there is almost no chance the attempt fails.

Re: How do you set up TDs?

interesting little note.

You can shoot takedowns off of minor slips, but there is a delay depending on what side of the screen you are, which slip you do and which takedown you shoot. This could probably be useful if drilled a ton, but right now im still working on it.

Basically, if you're in red corner, and slip away from the camera (so left), then the I believe you can shoot a single leg with no pause at all. However if you shoot a double there will be a pause, so you must slip toward the camera (Right if you're on the red corner) and it will do the reverse.

The rules apply in reverse if youre in the blue corner. Like I said, dont know how useful it is given how intricate, but it may have some utility in the meta later down the road.

To better answer your question, outside of clinch attempts I like to feint a lot in general. Always feint with the single leg and practice as it is a good feint and draws a lot of responses, you can even mix it up.

Right now the low single ankle grab is a little messed up frame-wise, it looks like it almost skips a frame or something on occasion - so its pretty effective. Another useful tool is to setup a few double legs and stop them so you end up in overunder, you can then throw a strike on the exit. Do this again but go for a takedown instead while they expect the clinch strikes. This will also make people less likely to pay attention to turning driving takedowns as they will be focusing on this instead
