Dev question: I still want to know who asked for this?...

Let me first say that this is not "hating" or "bashing" because thats not what i'm here to do. I just simply want to know why out of all the past and present request for a PRIDE FC mode we instead got.....kumite. Now i am getting a feel of the 80's vibe of it and i DO enjoy it because its something different but I seriously want to know how something like this made it and Pride didn't.

I'm not a dev but the answer seems pretty obvious:

1) A Pride mode requires money. EA would have to pay additional money to get the likeness rights to Pride fighters who arent in the game. 21 of the 33 fighters that were in Pride mode in UD3 would require EA to negotiate individual likness deals.

2) The audience that EA is targeting likely doesnt know or care about Pride. EA isnt targeting hardcore MMA fans or OSers with this game. EA isnt going to put in resources to create a mode that the target audience they want doesnt know or care about.

Even if you don't have licensed Pride fighters, they still have rights to the brand don't they? Even if not a "Pride" branded ring, just an MMA arena in a Kickboxing style ring like Pride, Rizin, DREAM, One has done would be super cool, different, but still actually realistic and fitting of the sport.

Instead we get full Mortal Kombat, with zany sound effects....

The way the game is built , they can't put in a boxing ring to replace the octagon. The would have to make another game entirely for that. The devs have explained this before.

I don't buy that - all that literally changes is just the boundaries

Is the Kumite ring, if you can call it a ring, not bigger than the normal octagon? It feels bigger anyway.

Magical rope physics that require incredible amounts of time and money are also needed
It's not like there was some boxing series developed by the same company that easily made rope physics in 2004 on a ps2 or anything
