NHL 11: Created Players in the Draft Question

So, via NHLView NG, I am making a 2000-2001 roster for NHL 11. That even includes several players that will be in the 2001 Draft. One of them, Ilya Kovalchuk, played in Russia that season, but the KHL's not in the game. The main problem with that is the following; normally, on current gen, I'd put the player in Free Agency and he'll be listed as playing in Russia. However, I don't know if it works on last gen, hence why I'm making this thread. Did it work on last gen, or am I going to have to put him in one of the European leagues?

Yeah, you're going to have to put him in either the CHL or a Euro team. 99% sure FA's don't enter the draft.
