Let’s talk Wrestling!

I’ve seen a number of people talk about wanting a struggle state for takedowns. Undisputed had the “Shine” to simulate the struggle to win a takedown and I see that referenced in this forum often.

It seems EA UFC 4 is bringing a deeper, more technical, more organic “struggle” to the takedown.

Personally, I think it’s beautiful from what I’ve seen and heard about how it works.

In short, depending on your reaction time to defend a shot, it could trigger a driving takedown attempt. As an attacker, within this state, you can move left or right to “turn the corner” and win the battle.

The defender can match your left/right movement to continue to defend your driving attempt.

I’m sure I’m missing aspects of this. So if GC’s or GPD can further explain this, I’d appreciate it. I’m sure with the trailer out, the NDA is lifted on this subject?

But it sounds like we have a deeper struggle state than simply rotating a stick.

Thoughts on this?

This is very interesting, as i did not get my Beta code so did not get to experience it first hand. That actually sounds quite cool now you break it down. I'm sure the GC's can break it down in much more detail when it drops but they are probably still under NDA. Its a shame that in the trailer its not really touched upon in much detail so i thought the shine system was still superior as it allowed more drawn out takedown struggle mechanics. Looks like i could be proven wrong in this area which would be a pleasent suprise.

Do you also know if any enhancements were added in this area between the Beta and release version?

Re: Let’s talk Wrestling!

People are talking about what they added to the clinch but not what they took away. The ability to gain control time in double under hooks and hold your opponent against the cage Usman and khabib style. We absolutely need both of those positions for control. They were never a problem even in high level play. Grappling got nerfed again under the guise of a new feature. We keep getting screwed.

I recall GPD saying on Twitter that Double Underhooks is still in the game. But in terms of Clinch entry to Double Under, you get there by Shooting a takedown and cancelling into Double Unders.

Apparently the same 9 Clinch positions are in UFC 4, albeit, they are re-animated with RPM Tech.

So I would guess that you can still employ a control tactic with Double Unders in UFC 4

That's over under, not double under.

Re: Let’s talk Wrestling!

The Beta wound up being a failure in terms of truly showing the Clinch and Wrestling capabilities IMO.

Because they didn't include a Tutorial, most people never got to see the depth of the system or even understand how to get to those positions.

I really think that once people spend some real time with the game, the clinch and the wrestling is going to shine bright.

2 players that know how to chain wrestle is going to show some pretty cool scrambles back and forth.

I don't know for sure, but I think that's because the purpose of the demo wasn't to sell people on the game like last time, it really was just a technical beta. Which is why they shut it down so quick.

Once they had enough numbers to stress test the online aspects of the game they pulled the plug because the purpose had been served.
