Re: NHL PS4 Texture Modding

Textures are in .gnf format. I don’t have ps4, but I have NHL 18 decrypted pkg and I have succeed to extract textures from package.
Here is possible steps for modding:
1) Jailbroken Ps4 to run decrypted pkg:s
2) Tools to unpack pkgs (Easy pkg extractor)
3) Tools to extract .big inside pkg (quickbms)
4) Tools to export .gnf textures (Rich Whitehouses Noesis)
5) Tools to convert dds/png/tga to .gnf (Not known converter)
6) Repack .big files (possible with quickbms re-import)
7) Repack .pkg files (Maybe with the pkg extractor)
8) Run modded pkg in jailbroken ps4

Almost all the steps are possible now but it need to convert textures back to .gnf. Here is all about I know and it will help if somebody want to try reverse-engineer the format.
Edit: Here is dds to gnf converter. I will test it later and if it works modding is technically possible: https://github.com/Backporter/SSE-Fa...ture-Converter

Re: NHL PS4 Texture Modding

The converter above needs orbis-image2gnf.exe which found in PS4 sdk. I don't have sdk so I cannot test it now. Gnf textures are dxt compressed swizzled images and texture data starts from hexadecimal address 0x100. Here is another converter which can convert and unswizzle ps3/ps4/switch images to dds but not vice versa.

Yes, but it is still almost possible. Writing tools for 360 and ps3 took years of research for me without any knowledge about programming or hex editing before I ask help in xentax forum. We are lucky because there are some great tools like quickbms and noesis and without these tools I would never had succeed in that.

There are no easy method converting 3d models. You should know the whole format: Ps3 models are based on psgl rendering api which is based on OpenGL ES
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PSGL
Then you should know what is format in NHL 09 pc. Maybe same .o format as old Fifa games:

That isn't copy and paste, you should research the format and 3d Model Researcher is a good tool for researching models:
