"The Monday Night Wars...REIGNITED" WCW vs. WWE vs. ECW [A WWE2K19 Universe]

Welcome to the universe of professional wrestling and sports entertainment...only this isn't our universe, but an alternate one. In many ways, it is quite similar to our own. Just like in our universe, WWE owner Vince McMahon bought his competition, WCW and ECW. But here, in this universe, there was no Invasion, no WCW/ECW Alliance. Instead, Vince McMahon decided to keep all 3 companies in business. They exist seperate from one another, but as part of one shared world - almost like a professional sports league - all abiding by one set of rules and bylaws and building their rosters from a shared pool of talent, continuing to compete and push one another to greater and greater heights.

Three men were chosen by Mr. McMahon to oversee the operations of each of his three brands: his son Shane McMahon runs WWE, Eric Bischoff oversees WCW, and Paul Heyman is in charge of ECW. In an attempt to level the playing field to the greatest extent possible, Mr. McMahon has provided WWE and WCW with access to equal resources. ECW, while still not quite as resource-rich as its two competitors, operates with a significantly larger capacity then it ever did before it was bought out by Mr. McMahon. WCW and WWE each feature two shows per week, respectively: Nitro & Thunder, Raw & Smackdown. ECW has just one weekly program, Hardcore TV. Each promotion puts on their own respective Pay Per View event every month. Once a year, a special edition PPV is held that brings together talent from all 3 promotions as part of one event.

Once a year, all of the talent contracted to the organization is pooled and the three companies draft their rosters. The history and knowledge of championships, storylines, gimmicks, rivalries, tag teams, and stables crosses over between each promotion, even if/when partners or stablemates are drafted by different companies. Prior to the first draft, the three executives reached an agreement that, at least for the first year, Sting would remain with WCW, The Undertaker would remain with WWE, and that ECW would automatically receive Brock Lesnar. Everyone else was part of the draft pool.

Also in existence is NXT, which acts as a shared farm system for all three companies. Each year, a small number of NXT talent "graduates" to the main draft pool, while an equal number of main pool talent gets relegated to NXT for that year. Promotions can make up to 2 "in-season" trades per draft year, and can sign up to 2 "free agents" who went undrafted and declined to ply their trade in the NXT farm system.

Something else to take note of: many of the professional wrestlers who died in our universe are alive and well in this universe. No tragic crimes of any significant severity were committed, either. A handful of wrestlers are just a little younger, and started their careers just a little bit later - or in some cases, are a little older and started their careers just a little bit earlier - than in our universe. Most of the storylines and gimmicks that took place in our universe happened here, too. But a handful of things are a little different, particularly when it comes to certain gimmicks and certain stables.

You are now entering a new universe, one where the greatest era in the history of professional wrestling didn't abruptly end and fade away, but rather continued, revived by fresh ideas and concepts.

You are now entering a universe where the Monday Night Wars never ended, instead evolving into something even better.

A few things to keep in mind:

- I am starting this Dynasty Thread now, but I am through the first 3 in-game months of my Universe. In one of the reserved posts below, I will summarize the first 3 months, after which I will post regular updates as I continue to advance through the calendar.

- At this point in time, my Universe does not feature women's wrestling. This is not because I have anything against women in wrestling; I have no problem with it at all. Rather, I haven't really watched wrestling in a long time and I know next to nothing about 90% of present day wrestlers, or even the wrestlers of the last 10-15 years, for that matter. There are only a handful of female competitors included in the game that I am at all familiar with, and quite frankly, women's wrestling during the Monday Night Wars - when I was watching regularly - was more about gratuitous sexuality than it was about wrestling. I may decide to integrate women's divisions into the Universe at a later date.

- NXT has one weekly show and 4 quarterly PPVs, but I am allowing the CPU to completely handle NXT and I will not be posting about NXT other than when NXT talent "graduates" to the top levels.

MNW...Reignited begins in May, Year 1. You'll be joining the action at the start of August, Year 1. But right here, you can read up on everything that has happened in the intervening three months.

NOTE: All championships in each promotion were vacant at the beginning. Also, just this one time because of the schedule, ECW ran a PPV in May, while WWE and WCW did not.

WCW - May-July, Year 1

Eric Bischoff's first order of business was to crown a new World Heavyweight Champion, so he designed a 16-man tournament, the finals of which took place at the Great American Bash (June, Year 1), the first PPV held by the new company.

The 16 entries in the tournament included: Sting, Triple H, Kevin Nash, Ric Flair, Tazz, The Rock, Shane Douglas, Kane, Vader, Ricky Steamboat, Bret Hart, Booker T, Lex Luger, Rick Steiner, Mr. Perfect, Big Boss Man. Sting ended up defeating Ric Flair in the finals at GAB and becoming the inaugural World Heavyweight champion.

Meanwhile, Triple H - through luck of the draw - matched up with his good friend Kevin Nash in the first round, and ended up beating him with the help of his wife, Stephanie McMahon, who distracted Nash and the referee at critical points in the match, helping Triple H recover stamina, avoid pinfalls, and ultimately swing momentum. This didn't sit well with Nash, but Triple H apologized and the two quickly made peace.

Bischoff decided that the 12 men who did not make the semi-finals would randomly be drawn into teams of 3, and faceoff against one another in a tournament of 6-man tag matches. The winning team would then join the losers of the original tournament's semi-finals for a Fatal 5-way match at GAB to determine the #1 contender who would face the champion in the main event at Bash at the Beach the following month. The competitors in the Fatal 5-way ended up being Kevin Nash, Lex Luger, Triple H, Tazz and Ricky Steamboat, with Nash overcoming both his stablemate and his good friend, among others, to become the #1 contender.

The Hart Foundation defeated Harlem Heat and Kronik in a 3-team tornado tag match to capture the Tag Team Titles at GAB, while Mr. Perfect pinned Ken Shamrock to capture the U.S. Title. Also at the GAB, Christopher Daniels captured the Cruiserweight Title in a 4-man ladder match with Kidman, Rey Mysterio and Ultimo Dragon. The Big Boss Man also captured the Hardcore Championship.

Following GAB, Kevin Nash and Sting began to prepare to faceoff for the World Heavyweight Title at Bash at the Beach, and with Nash's nWo Wolfpac stablemates Lex Luger and Konnan looking to stake a claim in the tag team division, it was Nash's good friend Triple H who was by his side throughout the build-up to Bash at the Beach. They teamed together in a series of tag and 6-man tag matches over the course of the month leading up to the PPV. Nash and Sting, both faces, maintained a level of respect and fair play despite their competitiveness throughout the course of the month.

Meanwhile, Mr. Perfect feuded with Ken Shamrock and Ricky Steamboat, a pair of faces who faced their own uneasy level of tension as both had their eyes on the U.S. Title gold. The Hart Foundation turned heel after winning their Tag Team titles, and found themselves pursued by three teams - Harlem Heat, the Luger/Konnan combo, and the Impact Players. After winning the Cruiserweight Title, Christopher Daniels also took a turn toward the dark side as he proclaimed his superiority and began a feud with face Kidman. The Rock, Kane, Ric Flair, Vader, Tazz, and Shane Douglas all carried over tension amongst one another stemming from the original World Heavyweight Title tournament, while Goldust and The Godfather found themselves coming together as an unlikely tag team pair, quickly winning the support of many WCW fans.

At Bash at the Beach in July, Daniels defeated Kidman to retain the CW Title, Mr. Perfect won a triple threat match with Shamrock and Steamboat to retain the U.S. Title, and The Hart Foundation overcame Harlem Heat to retain the Tag Titles. Luger and Konnan came out on top of a tough tag team contest with the Impact Players, while Vader won a a six-man battle with The Rock, Ric Flair, Tazz, Kane and Shane Douglas to become the new #1 contender, ready to face the winner of the Sting/Kevin Nash main event at the following PPV.

Finally, in the main event, Kevin Nash challenged Sting for the World Heavyweight Championship, and Triple H was at ringside to support Kevin Nash. It was a superb back and forth battle between Nash and Sting. At one point during the match, when the momentum was in Nash's favor, Triple H called him over to the apron for strategic advisement, but Nash took his foot off the brakes and allowed Sting to get back into the match. Ultimately, however, Nash regained control and landed a Big Boot that put him in position to deliver a Jackknife Powerbomb to Sting and take home the title. Incidental contact during the Big Boot, however, had the referee on his back seeing stars. That's when Triple H pulled a steel chair from beneath the ring apron, slid into the ring and clobbered Nash right in the face, all unbeknownst to Sting, who was down from the boot. Sting found his footing just in time to see a dazed Nash climb back to his feet. Sting delivered a Scorpion Death Drop, and the referee got back into the match just in time for a 3-count, sealing Sting's victory as he retained the title.


WWE - May-July, Year 1

To crown a new WWE Champion, Shane McMahon kicked off his inaugural Raw with an 8-Man elimination pinfall/submssion Battle Royale which included Stone Cold Steve Austin, Goldberg, Hollywood Hulk Hogan, The Great Muta, Sycho Sid, The Undertaker, Raven, and Mankind. Sycho Sid (over with WWE fans as an unlikely face) and Goldberg were the last two men remaining, and Sid surprised the world by chokeslamming and powerbombing the seemingly invincible former WCW stalwart to capture the gold. This set up a face vs. face rivalry between the pair that would lead to them headlining the main event at the promotion's first PPV of the new era, Money in the Bank.

Raven surprised many by picking a fight with The Undertaker, taking every opportunity possible to mock the Undertaker's "Dead Man" gimmick, arguing that he lived a far darker lifestyle than The Phenom could ever handle. At first Taker didn't take Raven seriously, treating him as a pestering gnat that wasn't worth his attention. But that all changed when their confrontations became physical. Quickly, Raven went from being a nuisance to drawing the full brunt of the Undertaker's ire.

Meanwhile, Kurt Angle made friends with The Patriot, and they joined forces under the banner of The Union. They seemed on the precipice of a feud with the The United Kingdom, featuring the snooty anti-American views of British Bulldog and William Regal. But that potential rivalry never had a chance to develop due to the actions of the Nation of Domination, which looked to make an example of The Union in order to make a point about some of the hypocrisy and inequality that continues to permeate American society.

Chris Jericho made clear his disgust with the fact that he again would have to share a professional workspace with Hogan, Hall and the nWo, who he blamed for keeping him down while in WCW. Jericho tried to challenge Hogan, but the nWo leader wouldn't have any of it, instead drafting one of his lieutenants - Jeff Jarrett - to deal with the Jericho problem.

At the Money in the Bank PPV in June, X-Pac captured the Light Heavyweight Title in a triple threat match with Jushin "Thunder" Liger and Psychosis, while Bam Bam Bigelow captured the Hardcore Title in a Fatal 4-way with Rhyno, Hugh Morrus and Glacier. Jericho defeated Jarrett to capture the Intercontinental Title, while the Nation put down The Union to capture tag team gold. In the 8-man Money in the Bank ladder match, Hogan became Mr. Money in the Bank, using his influence behind the scenes to get stablemate Hall added to the list of participants. With Hall's help, Hogan was able to get his hands on the suitcase, overcoming Stone Cold Steve Austin, Raven, The Undertaker, Mankind, The Great Muta, and Owen Hart. In a tough, hard-fought main event, Sid again shocked by defeating Goldberg fair and square to retain the WWE Championship.

Goldberg would't give up, however. He wanted another shot, and Sid didn't have a problem agreeing to that. That didn't sit too well with Stone Cold Steve Austin, however, who made it known that he wanted and deserved a shot at the title. Three is already a crowd, but that didn't stop Hollywood Hulk Hogan from sticking his nose in. As Mr. Money in the Bank, he told Austin that if anyone deserved a title shot, it was him. As the month progressed, Stone Cold's attention shifted from the Championship and onto shutting up Hogan. Jericho, the new Intercontinental champion, too had designs on putting Hogan in his place. But Hogan again wasn't having it, and he dispatched Jarrett to be his surrogate in a feud with Austin, while Scott Hall played interference with Y2J. Meanwhile, Goldberg and Sid prepared to face off one more time.

Raven continued to take aim at The Undertaker, mocking him and playing mind games with the Dead Man. In the mean time, Raven had managed to capture the Hardcore championship from Bam Bam Bigelow. It all led to a much-anticpated one-on-one confrontation between Raven and the Undertaker scheduled for the July PPV, Vengeance, and the Hardcore Title would be on the line.

The Union wasn't finished with the Nation of Domination, and their tense controversial feud that brought newspaper headlines into the squared circle raged on.

At the July PPV Vengeance, X-Pac retained the Light Heavyweight title in a match with the Hurricane, while The Union did defeat Faarooq and Mark Henry...but only by count out, and so the Nation retained the Tag Team Titles. Chris Jericho lost his Intercontinental belt to Scott Hall, who benefited from the distractions perpetrated by his nWo stablemate Buff Bagwell. Their buddy Jeff Jarrett was less successful, however, losing a hard-fought No Holds Barred match-up with Stone Cold Steve Austin. The Undertaker was finally able to get his hands on the thorn in his side, Raven. The Hardcore champion put up a good fight, but ultimately was put down by the Undertaker, who walked away with the Hardcore title belt. Finally, Goldberg and Sid faced off one more, and this time, it was Goldberg who came out on top, spearing the champion and finishing him off with a pair of Jackhammers.


ECW - May-July, Year 1

Shane McMahon and Eric Bischoff decided to kick off the new era with a very hands-off approach, choosing (so far, at least) to remain largely behind the scenes. Paul Heyman, however, had very different plans. Heyman got the new era of ECW started by simply naming his former client Brock Lesnar the ECW World Champion, and declaring that he and Brock would determine if and when Lesnar would defend his title, and against whom.

The addition of Shawn Michaels to the new revamped ECW roster delighted many fans, but in HBK's mind, his challenge was clear - show ECW fans and his ECW peers that he was more than just a pretty boy, that he could handle the promotion's signature rough and tumble style. He spent the early days of the new ECW facing off against the likes of Rob Van Dam, Sabu, and Jerry Lynn, all tough extreme style matches.

The Iron Sheik, meanwhile was glad to finally have an opportunity to confront Macho Man Randy Savage. Sheik had proclaimed on several media appearances that he'd had many problems with the Macho Man on a personal level behind the scenes, and he was now out to get his revenge.

The Guerreros, The Dudley Boyz and Edge & Christian all had their eyes on the Tag Team Championship, as did Gangrel and Vampiro - part of Gangrel's newest incarnation of The Brood. But they also had a bone to pick with Edge & Christian, Gangrel's former proteges. In Vampiro, Gangrel found an equally twisted tag team partner, and together, they found an unlikely new protege in Doink, who began to shed his goofy persona of the past to become a much darker-minded clown.

At the inaugural PPV in May, Hardcore Heaven, Savage defeated Iron Sheik in a brutal backstage brawl while a fatal 4-way tag team battle between the Guerreros, the Dudleys, Edge & Christian and The Brood saw the LWO members Eddie and Chavo come out on top as the inaugural Tag Team Champions. The ECW stalwarts pushed HBK into a fatal 4-way steel cage match that included RVD, Sabu and Lynn. HBK fought valiantly, but it was RVD who escaped the cage first. After Heyman and Lesnar declared that he would be defending the title in the main event against Hayabusa, the accomplished Japanese star who had decided to make jump to the US full-time, Big Poppa Pump - who wasn't scheduled to appear on the PPV - came out to the ring and questioned Lesnar's manhood for the way he was going about being champion. He told him he was coming after him, and that he would be taking the ECW Title away from the Next Big Thing. In the main event, Hayabusa fought valiantly, but the powerhouse Lesnar put him away with an F5 through the announce table and retained the ECW Title.

Over the course of the next month, Steiner began to feud with and call out Lesnar, but despite a few physical confrontations, Lesnar wanted to avoid facing Steiner in the ring until the next PPV, Mayhem. After Steiner won a Hardcore TV match, he was attacked by The Big Show, enlisted by Heyman and Lesnar. The following week, Steiner faced The Big Show in the main event on Hardcore TV and lost when Hayabusa interfered, revealing that he too had teamed with Heyman and Lesnar in a "if you can't beat 'em, join 'em" move. Heyman dubbed the new trio The Industry, because according to him, they weren't just the best in the industry, they WERE the industry.

Shawn Michaels continued to test himself against the extreme elite, only to find that he had a good-natured rivarly with AJ Styles, who he thought was also out to prove something, too. The two found themselves competing and teaming in a variety of matches with the likes of RVD, Sabu, Lynn and Tommy Dreamer - the ECW veterans who were still with the company, for now, at the dawn of the new era. But what HBK quickly discovered was that Styles wasn't there to prove that he was extreme enough to hang with the ECW crew, but rather that he was better than Michaels and resented all the attention he was getting as the shiny new toy on the ECW roster. Styles believed he was the better wrestler and possessed more inherent star power. Styles turned on Michaels and attacked him, setting up a fight at the PPV.

Meanwhile, the conflict between The Brood and Edge & Christian continued to intensify as Gangrel and his sinister demented crew found every opportunity they could to frustrate the fun-loving Edge & Christian. Similarly, there was no resolution in sight between Randy Savage and The Iron Sheik, who found an unlikely ally in JBL. Things continued to get very personal between Sheik and Savage.

At the Mayhem PPV in June, Macho Man again got the better of the Iron Sheik in a tag team match up. Kanyon captured the ECW Television Title, while the Dudley Boyz won a 3-way TLC match with the LWO and the new Industry team of Big Show and Hayabusa to capture tag team gold. HBK came out on top in a grudge match with AJ Styles. Edge & Christian thought they were going to get a chance to take on the tormenting Brood, but Gangrel and Vampiro played tricks and got the match postponed.

Despite his brazen confidence, and despite a number of physical confrontations that had taken place between him and Lesnar throughout the previous month, Steiner was unable to overcome The Next Big Thing. It was a tough, bloody, grueling match-up, but ultimately Lesnar was victorious and retained the ECW Championship.

Many of ECW's featured feuds throughout June spilled over into July. Steiner continued to come at Lesnar, the rivalry between HBK and the upstart AJ Styles grew in intensity, while the burning hatred between Gangrel's Brood and his former proteges, Edge & Christian, raged on. The personal clash between Macho Man Randy Savage and The Iron Sheik also boiled over into July. Meanwhile, several competitors jockeyed back and forth in an attempt to gain the TV Title.

Edge & Christian found time to end The Dudley Boyz very short reign as ECW Tag Team Champions, winning the belts on an episode of Hardcore TV, making the stakes for their upcoming contest with Gangrel and Vampiro - officially signed to take place at July's CyberSlam PPV - even higher. Heyman and Lesnar did everything they could to frustrate Big Poppa Pump, even pitting him in a one-on-two handicap match against Lesnar's stablemates, The Big Show and Hayabusa. Randy Savage was at a disadvantage heading into his rematch with The Iron Sheik after he lost a lengthy, violent matchup with The Sheik's new ally, JBL, in what easily became a match of the year candidate. Sabu defeated his friend and tag team partner Rob Van Dam and Tommy Dreamer in a triple threat match to capture the ECW TV Title.

At the July PPV, CyberSlam, Jerry Lynn d. Kanyon in the show opener to become the #1 contender for the TV Title. Severely weakened after his epic match with JBL just two weeks earlier, Macho Man Randy Savage overcame the odds to defeat The Iron Sheik in a violent steel cage match. The Dudley Boyz came out on top in a four team tornado tag battle with The Guerreros, Chris Benoit & Dean Malenko, and The Industry's Big Show and Hayabusa to become the #1 contenders for the tag team belts. In a Triple Threat rematch for the TV Title, RVD defeated Sabu and Tommy Dreamer to capture the championship he'd once made famous.

At the conclusion of the tag team contest between The Brood and Edge & Christian, all four men were drenched in blood, but ultimately, it was Gangrel and Vampiro who went to extreme and violent lengths to become the new ECW Tag Team Champions. In an outstanding back-and-forth contest that featured finisher after finisher, counter after counter, and kickout after kickout, two of the sport's best at their very best put on an absolute clinic. But it was AJ Styles, to the surprise of many, who outlasted the showstopper Shawn Michaels to earn a huge victory and position himself well in the ECW World Championship hunt. Finally, Steiner and Lesnar clashed again, and just as before Lesnar came out on top despite a valiant effort from Big Poppa Pump.

As for ECW getting Brock, its because of Heyman, and its part of the storyline, which you will see as I update the post summarizing the first 3 months. Also, I updated the roster post with tag teams and stables, as well as the championships post.

I'm also very intrigued to see how you handle mixing out the old with the new as your progress through this. Going to be fun seeing an upcoming Lesnar battle the likes of a Sycho Sid potentially!
