I always like reading the other slider sets and the reasoning behind the ideas and numbers. Mine are very odd looking, but I've been using them for a few years, and i start there as a reference point, and then tweak from things that I know that have been true about the game. Thanks for all of this - good read!

How's CPU bullpen management been?

Asking because reading in WarmWind's thread he has bullpen stuff really good with the settings below...

CPU Starter Stamina: 7 - Starters won't be able to match real life pitch counts without this boost. Also solves some bullpen management issues with the CPU.

CPU Reliever Stamina: 7 See above

CPU Manager Hook: 6

That's an interesting approach, for sure.

In my experience, it hasn't been an issue with pitcher "stamina", per se. When I think of "stamina" issues, I think of pitchers either not tiring when they should, or tiring too fast. The issue, in my opinion, has more to do with the manager pulling the pitcher too quickly based on the situation, rather than allowing the pitcher to work out of a jam.

I think the CPU pitcher is pulled early more based on performance (strikes/ball ratio). The more a pitcher struggles (i.e. more hits/walks allowed), the more inclined the CPU manager will be to pull him. In the approach above, a higher Manager Hook would (in theory), cause the CPU Manager to have a quicker trigger finger, as that is what the slider is intended to do.

I'm planning to do a few test games with an increase in Strike Frequency to see if my hunch is true. A higher strike frequency should lead to lower pitch counts, which in turn, should lead to longer outings by the CPU starter. But, it may be a trade off situation, because if the increase to the Strike Frequency slider throws the first pitch/overall strike percentages severely out of whack, then it'll end up being a wash.

I might give these a try tonight. I keep track of all the stats. I track the following.

BABIP
Foul %
Swing and miss %
Ground ball %
Fly ball %
Line drive %
First pitch strike %
Strike %
HR/game

I even track the hit distribution percentages. I try to get singles to be around 60-65% and home runs around 10-15% and doubles around 20%. I also track how the runs are being scored. It is a lot of work but I love looking at the numbers when I’m not able to play the game.

So it is nice to see someone that looks at the numbers too. I want my own universe too and any player can have a good year and bat over .350 but I don’t want my team batting .300.

Do you tap or hold down the button when pitching?

I noticed that when I am pitching I never get the borderline calls.

Good to see a fellow stat tracker! I obviously tracked what I thought was most pertinent to creating the set, but I'd definitely like to see how the numbers shake out on your end. Hope you enjoy the set!

Thanks for giving them a shot! Glad you got a good first impression. I'd love to hear your thoughts once you have a few more games under your belt. Cheers!
