2020 Atlanta Braves

Almost a year to the day when the last thread was made, and now that we have said goodbye to a big cog of the 2019 offense it seems appropriate to start anew.

We lost JD but I assume there must still be some room in the budget if they were entertaining him at all. Hopefully we can land a corner outfielder to make up for some of that lost production and then riley/carnago can also come up big.

I'm still holding out up for some kind of trade for starting pitching too.

As we sit here today on January 16th this is not a world series calibre team, but we are only a couple pieces away from being one.

I'm fine losing out. That deal is too large and long. Unless he is using steroids, he won't be worth it.

Re: 2020 Atlanta Braves

In 3 or 4 years it wouldn't have been worth it, but we also have to realize that the Braves window is now. Acuna and Ozzie are locked up for a while, but Freddie is already 30. We can't expect Freddie type production for many more years, and I'd rather risk 1 or 2 years of bad money to ensure that we capitalize on this core.

But no point in worry about JD now that he's in another uniform. We signed Ozuna today. I'll be optimistic about it. He still has good power numbers, and there is reason to believe that last year was just a blip in terms of lack of getting on base. The part that hurts though is that he doesn't walk nearly as much as JD does. So, even if his average climbs back up to his career average his OBP won't really be there. He's a good right handed power bat though and a major upgrade over LF last year. Hopefully Carmago/Riley can help to bridge the gap too.

Still need to find some pitching though. Maybe King Felix will find the fountain of youth.

I didn’t realize Felix is only 33. I knew he started young, but he’s been around so long I thought he was pushing 40.

He was a 19 year old rookie back in 2005/2006. He’s logged a lot of miles - I have a theory that players who come up really young (Hernandez, Andruw Jones, Ken Griffey Jr, Kershaw) break down earlier because the miles logged in late teens/early 20’s do more damage on a growing body.

Re: 2020 Atlanta Braves

I've been home sick this week/laid up in bed, so using my MLB.tv have been watching games from last year. I went back and watched a few of Hamels starts with the Cubs earlier in the year and he really was good. I know he had the injury that slowed him down in the 2nd half, so if he's healthy in 2019 I think we'll get a pretty decent starting pitcher.

Heard the other day that Ozzie was asked about Acuna down in Spring Training. Apparently Acuna is talking about is going 50/50
