The cynical irony of punishing people for quitting out of games

I think 2k needs to have a discussion about what kinda game they have. They have a game where people play it really competitively and people don't really adhere to a spirit of the game. Meaning people do things like glitch the game, hunt down bums to pad records and go into the walk on with 5 elite players who have all been running together all year, instead of play team pro am where other elite players roam. You have a community that is downright toxic but, 2k year after year makes no effort to segregate the casuals and the elite. So there is no escape from teams that know they are too good for walk on but run anyway to get easy wins because they are tired of getting their muffin caps pushed back blue in the team pro am.

At some point 2k's lack of matchmaking makes this a bad installment. I cannot give a game a good grade if 80% of the time I play by myself its a horrible experience. Note I said HORRIBLE. It isnt just a minor nuisance. It makes the game unplayable when matched up with 4 other random players and you see the screen before tip off and the other team has matching gamertags and everyone is a 99 overall. THAT SHOULD NOT EVER HAPPEN. This game is too populated with users for it to have to happen.

I didnt buy WWE 2k this year and it looks like NBA 2k is next. 2K continues to push out INCOMPLETE games that give no respect to the casual player. People sit on Twitter and cry about stuff all year and 2K dives into pleasing the Twitter and Youtube crowd and they forget the crowd that just plays casually and would like to jump on and not have to play against 5 99 overalls who each have 2000 games in. That isnt too much too ask. Matchmaking is easy. I am not saying i want easy games but Jesus Christ do 80% of the games I play by myself have to be against overpowered teams? There should be a way to match up with people like me. Off the top of my head a no squad allowed, walk on would fix this issue immediately. Pair that mode with an inability to see your teammates and at the end of the day I wouldnt be mad at that. I dont think many people here would complain about that if it existed. Because if you played it you knew what was up going in. Maybe even lowering XP earnings for having more than 2 people in your squad when you enter the rec is an option to toy with. You cannot continue to allow full squads to enter rec and play against people whove never seen each other before in life. I dont think thats a weird or bad request and I dont think itd even be that hard to put in the game. You get nothing out of entering a game and having the score be 8 to 42 in the 2nd because your team was no match for 5 elite level who just wanted to stroke their egos by playing randoms.

I can play PUBG by myself and have fun most the time, same for Red Dead, same for COD, same for Madden, same for most games. But for some reason 2k thinks its smart not to put a seperations between elites and casuals in the walk on. maybe they can implement a mismatch detection mechanic which activates on immensely mismatched games and allows players of the other team to get 1 game boosts in accordance with how mismatched they are or something. I dont have a perfect answer but 2K could do SOMETHING. And to anyone thats gonna come in here and say either "just never play 2k without people you know" or "just play offline" you can go choke on you lunch. We all paid most likely more than 60$ for this game, it should not only be playable to the % of players who have so much time on their hands they can find 4 other good players to run with them everytime they play. Only peopl ewho have the actual time to wait for that everytime they play are kids and bums without a life. Real casual players probably have a couple hours each day to play and cant waste 45 minutes between games waiting for people to come online.

They’re hoping that the outmatched players will make new builds or buy boosts to do better.
Its all about vc spending

The real name of this game is microtransactions2k20

Two things:

1st I find the way people react to playing an OP team more telling. If people still try to play as a team and compete against the 5 99s, then its possible to at least have a decent experience, even though you get blown out. Problem is if they don't quit, the majority of players just become selfish idiots when faced with that situation, just making bad things far worse.

2nd is that if you have over a 95 player, it means your rating takes an automatic hit. That system needs to be fixed. Its also the driver of why you see those 99 stacked teams in rec, as there is way more to lose by risking a loss than to gain by winning.

I literally will not bring out a 95 plus overall character with randoms. And my other build is currently only an 85. I refuse to grind a third character in career but that means I'm not getting any sort of real badge progression. Randoms don't hit the big on the roll and if they do give it to me the other 2 bigs have crashed down and spam triangle so there's no way to go up. Even if i pump fake and get them in the air I'll get blocked on the way down or air ball a point blank layup. I've had games where I'm player of the game with 26 rebounds and 2 points. I've also had games where i out rebound their whole team but lost because randoms with a 3 ball and sharp takeover drive in all game.

Even when i play with my squad it's hard if you can't shoot. My best games this year are playing the wing, locking up, and scoring in transition. Slashers are dead in the half court unless you can hit a 3 and make them close out. I've said it for years, but they really need to make it FEEL like you're faster, stronger, and more athletic than everyone. These days i see my sharp buddies getting steals more than my defensive characters.

Mismatches need to be a thing in next gen.

All of this can be fixed by 1 simple thing.

SBMM. Skill based matchmaking. This is pretty self explanatory. Heck even Call of Duty this year implemented this. Matchmaking should be based on what your Average teammate grade is and thats final. So have the bums play with bums and elites play with elites. This is such a simple way to fix all this crap. A person who averages a C grade should NOT play with someone who averages an A grade.

the grading needs an overhaul as well though.

leaving assignment, hogging the ball , taking bad shots, reaching in all the time and so on needs to take a heavier penalty then it does now.

Settings screens should only improve your grade if there’s a basket coming out of it
