MyCareer Mode: is this a Backcourt Violation? Or Not? (with video)

MyCareer Mode >> I'm playing Point Guard for the Knicks (#7) vs the Nets.

As I run a pick-n-roll, my first problem is that I completely let go of the left stick before I took a shot... however, I am STILL automatically given a wild moving 3-pointer animation anyway (but that's a different gripe I have).

Anyways, after the shot, the CPU opponent DeAndre Jordan grabs the rebound and throws an outlet pass to Kyrie Irving... but I tipped the pass away near mid-court... yet again it (automatically) puts me into another (canned) jumping animation, because I never hit the jump button.

But as you can see in the video below, I catch the ball in mid-air and land on the other side of the half-court line... and promptly get called for a "Backcourt Violation".

Not only do I have an issue with the 2 different (unintended) animations... but the "backcourt violation" call is the icing on the cake that is also bothering me.

Section IX—Ball in Backcourt

• A player shall not be the first to touch a ball which he or a teammate caused to go from frontcourt to backcourt while his team was in control of the ball. EXCEPTION: Rule 8—Section III—e.
  
• During a jump ball, a try for a goal, or a situation in which a player taps the ball away from a congested area, as during rebounding, in an attempt to get the ball out where player control may be secured, the ball is not in control of either team. Hence, the restriction on first touching does not apply.

Section I—Player

The player is out-of-bounds when he touches the floor or any object on or outside a boundary. For location of a player in the air, his position is that from which he last touched the floor. The last part of the foot/feet which is in contact with the floor on his last step prior to jumping over the midcourt line or three-point line shall determine his location.


TRANSLATION....

You have to have BOTH 2 feet AND "control of the ball" clearly established in the frontcourt FIRST, in order to get a backcourt violation called.

But in this video I NEVER "had control of the ball" in the frontcourt AFTER THE NETS CAUGHT THE REBOUND & THE OUTLET PASS WAS MADE... because now it becomes a 50/50 loose ball that was tipped near mid-court.... so it shouldn't matter WHERE my feet took off, or landed.


Is this a backcourt violation? Or not? Please advise. Thx in advance.

It´s not since you gained the possession of the ball in midair by intercepting a pass so you didn´t have a clear position/ and possession until you landed.

The argument is that a ref could misinterpret that as gaining possession just as you were taking off since they aren't making the call in slow motion.



I've actually had that exact play called as a back court when I played in Junior College.


So I don't mind the CPU refs "missing" calls in the game. It's realistic. In a normal non mycareer game you would've been able to challenge the call by the way.
