What Exactly Is A Good or Open Shot (Returning Player)

Greetings,

I am just getting back into the game after a hiatus of several years. My question is this, what is a good or open shot? I ask because I tend to think a good or open shot is when nobody is around you. Then I see people online shoot and make it regularly on higher levels and the person has a hand up or gets to them really quickly.

So my question is, if the defender in front of me is not jumping right after I am jumping, is that a good or open or routinely make-able shot? If someone is in front of me but just has a hand up or does not jump, is that still a good or make-able shot? What if someone is on the side of me?

Also, are "lightly-contested" shots good to take as well?

Welcome back man. This year you'll actually get a number representation of how "covered" you were if you keep shot feedback on...you'll see it in the screenshot below. To answer some of your specific questions, the game has shifted much more towards realistic hoops, so you'll be happy:

"Open" is definitely when no one is around and you're within your range. That said, based on the shooter you can now hit shots that are contested (which is good, contested used be an automatic miss) just keep in mind contested shots will go down at a lower rate.

Also, "Jumping" isn't your only option anymore. Now you can contest the shot by being close and using L2 + R-Stick Up. Its effective and you can avoid getting beat by a pump-fake or a guy who attacks your close out. Here's a contest that would be considered "light" below as I get there pretty late:





Lightly contested shots you should definitely take. Regarding someone in front of you i'd say "Hand Down, Man Down" rules apply. But the difference here will be if you're playing online or not....lastly, having a defender on your side may change in 2K20--but it wasn't completely clear what the effects were last year.

As Kushmir well exemplified, it’s probably better than ever when it comes to realism.

There’s a lot more gray area, and contested shots aren’t an automatic miss.

One complaint? The online tuning seems to happen frequently and mess up slider sets for us offline players. Shot contest strength is adjusted by the devs beyond the sliders based on online cry babies. Overnight your pull up midrange light contest you afford within your offense can go from a good shot to poor shot economy and you have to change your entire offense...all that chemistry and flow destroyed.

Once you adjust they’ll tune it again.

TLDR? 2k doesn’t give af about us offline players who’ve dedicated sometimes decades to the franchise
