Re: Run Defense Help
There's no one size fits all approach to the run game this year. Blocking at the point of attack has been improved for almost all concepts and the backside blocking is like night and day now. Cutback lanes will open and if you are over aggressive you will pay.
It's really important to stay gap sound and that requires paying close attention to the formations/play the opponent is using. Right now I'm mostly playing Over fronts with timely flips to set up Under fronts when needed.
The only thing about run defense which was made easier this year is outside containment. When a DE/OLB has that responsibility they don't get auto-blocked out of the play anymore.
Edit - Right about now I'm trying to figure out what to do about guys who have a HB w/ Arm Bar. It's prettttttttttttay good.
