My thoughts on how to fix MyCareer

It would be nice to have the option of how you want to begin your career instead of going through another rags to riches storyline that they've been working for the last three years. It was cute the first time when Spike Lee did it but now we should get the option to choose our own path to the hall of fame.

Really it's not even realistic right now. Guys that play in high school and college, then go undrafted and don't really dominate overseas(you really can't because your rating is so damn low) NORMALLY don't becomes hall of fame superstars when they get pulled in for a workout and try to make a team. I mean it's happened with guys that started playing overseas and made it to the league. But rarely when a US born guy doesn't really do much in high school/college, doesn't get drafted and barely does anything overseas too.

Let's go back to the real ****. Be able to choose to be a star coming out of college and a high draft pick. But you have to put up star numbers or your fan base will drop. You won't get many endorsement deals. You relationships with other stars will go down. Your team might try to trade you after the first year if you don't produce and you'll be called a bust in interviews. Make your goals for getting into the hof higher if you choose that route because the expectations for what you SHOULD accomplish will be higher.

If you don't want to go that route then by all means choose to go from rags to riches with a story. There are people out there that love the grind to go from a 48 to a 90+ and thats perfectly fine. BUT...make the rewards worth it so that within a decent amount of time, your guy can be a 90+. Don't make it so that unless you buy VC or grind for 3-6 hours a day, you won't reach 90+ till right before the next iteration of the game comes out.

Also...bring back conversations and interactions with the GM once you reach a certain level of influence. Be able to work with your GM to trade for star players to come play with you. Tell them who you think deserves a raise or people that they need to keep in order to keep you happy. That's what most stars do in real life anyway. Why not have that communication to help push your team in a certain way instead of being stuck with whatever situation you fall into.

The neighborhood can always still be a thing. You could still have storylines and meetups with stars in the neighborhood just like they do now. Thats all perfectly fine.

Now I know the issue with having multiple starting points in your MyCareer would have a direct effect on pro am and street. I get that and I really haven't found a remedy to it lol. It would put people that start as a star at a definite advantage. I know there are certain games that have matchmaking scripts that help with pairing opponents that are around the same raiting but I don't know if thats possible with the 2k verse.

Please let me know what you think about something like this.

Great read, I didn't think it was anything wrong with posting this outside the impressions thread as its not an impression of the game but ideas of how the game could be better. Its borderline but its not the same thing at all.

Re: My thoughts on how to fix MyCareer

I think Mycareer needs to be separated from the online element. From there you give more customization to the players. Sliders and all. Edited rosters and all.

I love Mycareer or the concept of it, but its too much of a grindfest. Having your player connected to the online aspect bottles the possibilities of it all. What if i want to play as a real lebron or Steph character or some unique style player outside of the archetype system? Or I want to be a superstar but I also want to simulate real ball. And its so difficult in this game. I try personally but its not easy. I try to run real plays and most of them just dont get executed because of the dumbness of my teammates.

I don't mind the whole overseas aspect and the story behind it. But its on rails, and really doesn't matter much once you reach the league. None of the players you played with matter or what you supposedly learned. Ands there's no options or paths... which is difficult I know but it would make it more special.

I wouldn't mind going from 48 to 90+ but it would have to make sense. Like If im rated 68 why am I expected to stop Kyrie from scoring or Starting over John Wall simply because I played well!?

I also hate the Neighborhood as it pertains to Mycareer... All it is, is time consumption if your not a Pro-Am yada yada player.

I agree with this so much. There needs to be some freedom in MyCareer again. This is the single player default mode for a lot of people like myself who don't want to ball online. I'd rather just settle in to the "RP" element of being an NBA superstar... Back in the old days I could just create a superstar around 90 overall and act like he just came out of college or something and slap him on my favorite team. Now it's all built around ad revenue and VC for cruds sake...

Like this year for example. I created a slasher scoring post and spent $40 on VC right away to negate some of the grind. Cool. But he is only 80 after that... 89 now due to grinding.

Decided to roll a playmaking sharpshooter PG next so I spent another $20 (shame on me now) and took him from a 60 to 74... he is barely able to hang with the scrubs of the NBA but they got me guarding Lebron and AD for some reason lol. I just want to be able to compete without breaking the bank or spending half my life grinding. The system right now is not fun or immersive at all, because it's built around simple greed and it has gotten out of hand.

Story mode is cool but it's just bogged down by too much erroneous junk, like wading through advertisements in the neighborhood to your house or to the agents office to get your check... just deposit our check automatically and let us click a button to go to our house... too much fluff. My 2 cents.

Your post is exactly why 2K won’t make the changes you suggested. You just spent an extra $60. That’s $60 2K wouldn’t get if your changes were implemented. 2K knows most of their fans want immediate gratification and don’t want to put in the work to develop their player.

This is a business and 2K is doing what is best for business.
