Re: Control time

It is possible to win a round without throwing a strike. I tested it on quick match against a player who wasn't very good and I held him mostly in mount or crucifix/side saddle. He did land some strikes before I got him down but I still won the round. I did nothing else but hold him. Those are highly dominant positions though.

Re: Control time

Damage is and should be the primordial factor. If you hold me down 4 minutes and I land some good strikes for a minute, I should win the round.

That's the actual MMA rules though.

The only difference is that it's somewhat subjective in real life while the game accurately measures damage.

Absolutely. Damage is prioritized higher than control time.

The rules have a hierarchy to scoring. Meaning damage will always outweigh control, but if damage is equal then whoever has more control wins. That kind of thing.

Therefore, if I land only three clean punches and you hold me down for the rest of the round not throwing any gnp, I win.

Judges in real life cannot accurately gauge who has done more damage and often score fights erroneously anyway. The game doesn’t have this issue. It knows exactly who has done what.

Re: Control time

Never thought I'd see the day that the judging was defended on the forums...brings a tear to one's eye.

If we are using the new rules which prioritize damage, we should also take into consideration that 10-8 rounds should be awarded more liberally. This way grapplers like Khabib that dominate the round (3:30-4:00+ control time) can be rewarded appropriately while still letting damage be #1 in scoring categories.
