Who Plays Off-Ball D??

So i decided to try this out the other night. I didnt want to do Player Lock because I wanted freedom to control whoever on offense. So, playing with the Bulls I decided I would just play with whoever the Point Guard was on defense...no switching under no circumstances. It was pretty interesting. Your AI teammates will get abused if they cannot play D. I love that part of it. I gave up a lot of offensive rebounds which I did not like. Id like to chalk it up to the fact we were playing Dallas and DeAndre Jordan is a glass eater...which he did. But at times it seems like the CPU was quicker to the ball than my teammates. Overall, i liked it and may stick with it from here on out. Anybody else play this way??

I do, when there's one guy on the opposing team who's just that much better than his teammates. Anthony Davis on the Pelicans, for example.

I've been playing off ball D using only the PG for years. Hobit now...I have no idea how to play D with a big. :-)

Me. CPU is way better than me at playing on-ball D (especially online) and I'm way better than the CPU at playing off-ball D so it makes sense for me.

I'm using a combination of both.

When my opponent is running pick and roll I usually play on-ball D so my PG defender won't be stuck on the screen plus I can decide to go over or under the screen.

When your opponent is running a play for a 3pt shooter coming of a screen it's better to play off-ball D and follow the shooter or you will be too late to contest plus you can switch, go over or under the screen.

IMO good defense is a combination of on-ball and off-ball defense.

You can exploit people who play 1 or the other exclusivly.

When you play someone who plays off-ball D exclusive, you can hit him with a pass fake and a back door cut (using triangle button on PS4), his AI defender will not contest the shot as good as you would be playing on-ball D and it's easier to draw a foul when you're driving or making a post move.

When I play someone who plays on-ball exclusive, I just play basketball (run plays, run pick & roll, post up mismatch), no way you can stop that playing on-ball D only.

Playing off ball defense is playing defense.

Just like in the NBA you send them too the shot blocker.

I mainly play on ball 90% of the time but thanks too 2K's defensive logic you have too.

Players will rotate to the paint leaving shooters even if you have play tight.
They will rotate even if the defender is in good defensive position and they don't get back.
