Ice Skating Defense?

I've made this thread multiple years. But if I am going to purchase 2K19, I need to know about this issue!

In 2K16, 2K17, and 2K18, it always felt like I was on skates on defense.

No matter who I was playing with, no matter what defender I was controlling, online, or offline, my defenders would be on skates.

If an offensive player would drive against me, I would guess the correct way and gently move my analog in that direction, while holding LT (Xbox). If a player was rushing past me I would also use turbo.

No matter what I tried, whether it was letting off LT at certain times, only holding it to glue myself to the defender, nothing. It hasn't worked in years.

This gets significantly worse online. I've had multiple internet providers, extremely fast internet, and no input lag on NBA Live, yet playing in the park in 2k has been unbearable. Playing head to head I've been FORCED to play off ball defense, because the input lag is so terrible. This is NOT an issue with any other sports game (including Madden, Rocket League, NBA Live, Fifa, etc.)

With all that being said, I have enjoyed the NBA Live gameplay more, and was going to not get 2k this year, but the one thing that 2k always gets right is rosters and rotations for play now. This really excites me and it's always fun to have two games.

I won't buy unless this input lag thing is taken care of, and I just can't buy if I cannot play decent defense.

Can you all help me out? How has input lag been for you online? Is it so bad that you have to play off ball defense? Is it improved over last year?

Is defense improved offline as well? Is it easier to stay with your man if you guess the correct direction?

I know there is a defensive impressions thread (90% of the impressions were from the prelude). But I want an answer on this specific issue, so please help. Thank you!

If you are enjoying Live stick with it. I'm not a fan of Live gameplay at all but the foot planting is much better.
There many videos and forums answer your question, just read through them.

Or just buy it and find out for yourself.

Or rent it.

But on topic, I've not seen that much skating, aside from the deep post. Some of the animations really shove the defender and don't let you body up.

#2 in your program, #1 in our hearts. You will be missed, Red.

On 2k19, I notice AI teammates don't adjust/help on defense and that's when the CPU burns you. Ice skating defense? Yes, it's present on this game that's why i mix on ball and off ball defense.

By the way, I played against Orlando Magic yesterday, Evan Fournier was dominant and Vucevic was making shots fading away like Michael Jordan lol.

These things only happen to the players CPU defense. Stuff like not adjusting on help D, ect. The AI's CPU defenders are ALWAYS on point. Rarely ever will they miss a beat. As far as ice skating defense, one thing I have noticed is with getting around screens, they move waay to fast sometimes. Sometimes it's like they teleport around screens with how fast they move and are right back in your face. That needs to be slowed down to a more realistic speed.

Re: Ice Skating Defense?

Sounds like the foot planting still needs work, it's been years that this has been an issue. Sad to see it is still an issue. I'll rent it though and see for myself. Good tip
