Best way to attack a Cover 2 on the Goal line?

Just curious how everyone was approaching Cover 2 and other zone defenses on the goal line when the opposing player is a lb/safety user?

If they aren't shading down you should be able to dump off to the flat and RAC it in with any HB that has good AGI and ball carrier moves. Look to spin to the inside if the pursuit is coming from the sideline.

Otherwise I would flood the Mid Read Zone using a drive or shallow cross type concept. If they sink back to the deep route take the drag and possession catch. If they jump the shallow route high point pass to the deep route and aggressive catch.

C2's run fits are weak up the middle, so draws and inside zone (against the proper fronts) are also goodl. If you've got a fast QB scrambling should be an option, even if they are using a spy.

Thanks! I've been working on trying to high point to the back of the endzone where appropriate, but the lb almost always is able to tip it. In the previous Maddens the worst case scenario for me was a pass out of the back of the endzone. That has made me pretty hesitant to attack with the shallow cross concepts. Will work on the texas hb routes, etc and see how it goes.

You can always throw low in front of the coverage and make a possession catch.

A simple double slant will usually work as well

When you say the LB is able to tip it are you talking about the user? Because if the user can tip your high point he's committed and you can throw the shallow route.

You should be hitting that drag right in the middle of the field so you can turn upfield immediately since you may need some RAC to get it in. If the coverage was tight and pursuit is closing in you may need to make a precision spin move in whichever direction affords you more space.

If they put a QB spy on the field, especially any player lined up in the middle (MLBs and DTs), both routes in such concepts can get shut down. This is where scrambling can come into play even when they have a spy. If the player isn't fast enough (especially post patch) he won't have a shot at stopping any decently mobile QB. You need to commit to this quickly as doing otherwise will allow the opponent to send the spy with greater chance of success or attack you directly.

Man or zone? If it’s man, just have good release and short route running. Either way, running is a good idea, as is “The Catch” type stuff.

And that is the key point... that possession catch. I learned that in this game, you REALLY need to make the possession catch/RAC catch when you need it (I didn't mentioned aggressive catch because, for me, unless you have a guy rated 130, aggressive catches are automatic drops)

But in the scenario you presented, if you want any chance in making the catch, you have to do the possession catch or your receiver will get smacked by a defender and drop the pass.

(Which is not to say he won't drop it anyway)
