Need direction; pitching too easy?

I'm a casual baseball fan. I know about the game, I know a lot of players, but am not in-depth with stats. Maybe one day ..

Having said that, I think this might be the best sports game ever. I played a lot of The Show from years '14 through '16, but skipped '17 because of the poor performance, and the whole game felt off to me. Bought '18 a couple of weeks ago, installed it the other day and am blown away. Amazing game.

Ok, so I do know how to play, and it didnt take me long to get back into the swing of things. I use Zone-Analog-Stride for hitting, and Pure Analog for pitching on All-Star difficulty. I seem to get too many K's(which I read about in another thread) but I am not leading the league - just near the top, so it's not horrible.

The problem is, six games into my franchise, and opponents only managed 4 runs total. I started my pitching difficulty on veteran, but moved to All-Star to try to make it more difficult.

My question for the veterans and experts is: Should I try moving my difficulty up further? O should I change my sliders instead? They havent been touched. Also, should I consider a change to pitching interface, and why?

Thanks for any help!

Edit: The only reason I dont just experiment is I'm really busy and dont want to ruin too many games fooling about, when so many people have so much experience. I have kids, a full time job, and my own side company. Trying to get expert advice

IMO - don't bother wasting your time - read the 1st couple of posts in Armor and Swords slider thread - TRUST that those settings and sliders are the "right" way to play The Show and don't look back.

Re: Need direction; pitching too easy?

Sounds like you may be like me. Struggling with hitting (all-star) but dominating with pitching. So I’ve been toying around with pitching.. I think I’m on the highest level. They’re getting realistic amounts of runs off me now but I’m still struggling to get hits which results in me having difficult time to get wins lol. I’ll take that over shutting them out every game.

Re: Need direction; pitching too easy?

Before I answer a word of warning: the effects of difficulty and sliders change depending on the input method you use. I use pulse pitching so my difficulty/slider settings aren't going to work the same for you on pure analog.

Ok, now that that's out of the way...

Most people playing this game do find pitching much easier than hitting and need to turn pitching difficulty higher than hitting. I find anything lower than HoF laughably easy. Way too easy to pound the corners and get outs without ever walking anybody.

I made multiple slider sets this year for different difficulty levels. When I made one for HoF pitching, I still had to boost CPU batting in order to make it a challenge. However, my legend set actually nerfs CPU hitting. Despite this, I still find legend pitching more difficult (and more rewarding).

Legend pitching "feels" the most right to me. The way the batters react, the reward for pitching well, the punishment for pitching poorly. Aiming for the zone constantly isn't an option. Trying to buy a strike when behind in the count is a dangerous proposition. Having a predictable pitching pattern is death. But at the same time, if I recognize the strengths and weaknesses of both my pitcher and my opponents that night, I can still shut down an offense.

Honestly I'd recommend starting at legend pitching and working your way down with sliders. I really do feel like it's the best way to play.

Re: Need direction; pitching too easy?

I have officially moved to Legend/Legend with A&S sliders. Games are fun again and the AI can actually hit.
