2K Does Just Enough to Destroy MyCareer...

I wish this could be a positive post, but after a week of gameplay it’s time to face reality. MyCareer/Park is 2Ks build of Pure Trash.

Let me start with the positives - There’s a lot of free VC given out this year and the new neighborhood is convenient. That’s where the pleasantries stop and there’s a caveat here...

Free VC in dodgeball is very helpful (I’ve won 100K from it). I’m also fortunate to work from home so unless you’re unemployed, today was the first chance you had to even play dodgeball bc it occurs during the middle of the work/school day. The neighborhood also holds up to roughly 80 people, but more often than not, it’s only 20 or so playing in the park. I’ve only had it happen once where all courts had active games. Also be prepared to wait 30 minutes if you want to play in the Rec Center. However, after one game of Middle School ‘let’s clogg the paint and set picks’ style of basketball, I highly recommend you don’t indulge yourself.

Moving on to park, no surprise that the same cheese exists. The parks are filled with Sharpshooters of all heights, And1 super dribblers, and the extremely realistic 7’3 Glass Cleaners. If you make anything else, chances are you won’t have a pleasurable experience. Moving into gameplay, it’s flooded with moving screens, vigorous smashing of the steal button (with extremely high success rate) and a bunch of people who have never played basketball outside of sitting on their couch. I won’t get too deep on this but if you’re a post scorer, a pure sharp will either body you in the paint, pull the chair or poke the ball out. When you do happen to beat your man, you will get double teams, pass the ball in slow motion and watch the other team score on a fast break. Sadly it’s way too much negative for me to get into.

Moving onto the actual games, enjoy getting turnovers as every CPU defender swipes at the ball. In my opinion just play on pro until you get to at least 85, otherwise you will curse repeatedly and want to throw your controller. As an FYI, take it with open arms when the CPU shoots 90% on HOF (though this is nothing new).

The fan system is broken and doesn’t correlate properly to your performance and if you have 10 50 point games, there is a commentary glitch at the beginning of each game. Most troubling are the 2k generated rookies which ruin the game. Be prepared for many “77 OVRs” who have high 88s in everything except intangibles, shot IQ, consistency, etc. (the things that affect your overall but mean absolutely nothing during gameplay). Also be prepared to invest into roughly 100 games just to hit 90. That is when the “real” grind begins.

So many more terrible things I can mention, but I’ll just sum it up and say there’s a reason why users give this 2/10 stars.

My advice is either invest the resources into making this a complete mode, or separate MyCareer and Park and just start completely over from scratch. Hopefully I’ll find a way to sell a digital copy of the game.

Do better 2K...

Re: 2K Does Just Enough to Destroy MyCareer...

I don't understand why park is always so empty. Maybe they need to work on their load balancing or something. It is hard to get a game.

I am usually very happy with how fast rec center gets a game going. Much faster than last year's walk on pro-am. The quality of gameplay is super low though. Part of that is people still understanding the game. Ironically, making outlet passing easier I think has really hurt gameplay. Everyone (including myself) hated the random wayward outlet pass mechanic last year. But this year, they are very accurate, meaning if you are a big man you will find yourself mostly running between your basket and the opposing 3 point line, watching someone chuck a shot, then running back.

The biggest thing people need to work on is guarding their man. I feel like last year most good players got a handle on keeping close to sharps but this year people seem to have all forgotten again.

It sounds like your frustrations in mycareer are mostly about HOF mode? On superstar with a post scorer I routinely post 30-40 ppg with 10+ boards, frequent triple doubles, etc. HOF is ridiculous but oh well.

Interesting comments about dodgeball. I haven't paid attention to that at all maybe I should. How many games did it take to get 100K?

Also, yes, the grind is horrible. It was horrible last year too. No real reason to expect difference, its the golden goose for 2K.

You get 25K for winning dodgeball.

I dominate on HOF (70 points with 5 minute quarters) the roster quality is just atrocious and everyone has 85+ open three, but 50 moving and contested. It’s the steal mechanics and FG%.

Park is the bigger issue. Post play continues to be useless, and everyone just zig zags and hits fadeaway half court threes. I thought this would be fixed in 19, but it’s worst.

It’s probably my fault for expecting realistic gameplay this year...

In the spirit of being more positive, there is actually an easy fix...

Put the fake half court shooting in the slam ball park, and patch for realistic gameplay in the regular parks.

Cpu on HoF.... Good lord. You cant tell me that the greed made them do this.
If you want to get somehow a good amount of mypoints without having to post out ridiculous numbers on the board, hof is the way to go but... Man i wanna curse the whole 2k team so bad lol

The shooting percentage is ridiculous on levels as they will shoot lightly contested shots at an 80% clip even on pro (point guards that shoot when you get underneath a screen will not miss).

For someone who wants to make a true big (7ft or shorter) and is not a pure glass, my heart goes out to you because you will be as useless as my 92 post scorer in park (about 50 hours and 225K VC I’ll never get back).

However I don’t completely hate this because most players are trash so they cheese with 7’3 Glass Cleaners so for you people, I hope you never unlock hustle rebound.

I do think I might have found a realistic build that even 2K can’t screw up. Still testing against the 7’3 cheese in Park to be sure though.

Re: 2K Does Just Enough to Destroy MyCareer...

I feel like some of your complaints are valid, but some of the others are kind of strange.

Your 100% right about outlet pass accuracy. Its completely ruined the already fragile balance of play in walk on. They need to really incentivize getting back on D/penalize not getting back on D or just make the outlet passes super unreliable again because that game mode is basically unplayable right now.

Its also just amazing how toxic people are in there.

Youre also 100% right about the park being empty too. They need to either add a much quicker timeout (it seems to be you can stand idle in the park for at least an hour before being kicked out), or simply get rid of a bunch of servers. They seem to max out at 150 players, but I have never seen one even half full. The only place that keeps things moving quickly is the cages, because you dont have all of the idlers taking up spots.

I disagree about the park gameplay though. If youre having trouble getting the spacing to post up in a full court 3 on 3 game, thats on you and your teammates. Im also a 6'11 rim protector and ive had more than enough time and space to post up.

I love the improvement to park gameplay. It feels like it is based mostly around the pick and roll, which is how pickup games should feel. Ill never understand why there is no 4 v 4 full court in this game though - that is the most common full court casual basketball game, ive nevet seen anyone play 3 on 3 full court, its wayyy too much space. I really think 4 v 4 park would be the perfect medium between rec center and park right now.

What exactly is your complaint about HOF though? That its too hard? I find the game plays awesome, and after taking a couple spankings I win most of the games I should, and find the opponent pretty much hovers around 50/40 shooting percentages.

Also why is the fan system broken? I feel like it works pretty well - the flashier i play, the more quickly i accrue fans. Maybe its something i havent noticed but i liked the way this mechanic works this year.

I feel like this is a much more logical assessment of where this game is at. Original post is a touch too emotional lol..no disrespect intended. I play this game too, I have issues with some things too, but to go as far as to use the word "destroy" I don't know about that.
