This game really needs a Consistency Slider

My number one wish for 2019 is that they add a consistency slider for pitchers. For years, I've been wanting them to make pitching less stale. I play mostly Franchise, and I want a story line through my season. I want it to be more realistic. A consistency slider would greatly add to this. Aces would have the slider high, but there are also very good to great pitchers who are notoriously streaky - they'll pitch three gems in a row and then throw a stinker. As the game is now, this will rarely occur. I want a consistency slider so that pitchers will now have this added element to deal with.

But not just that, because obviously I don't want my pitcher automatically throwing a stinker every few games. What would also add immensely to the experience is in-game analysis of the pitcher's pitches during that specific game. So, for example, there could be an overlay pop-up that says something like "[Pitcher's] cutter is just not cutting tonight, adjust accordingly." Or maybe the advice could be even more specific. Point is, something along these lines would be awesome. And this could all be related to the consistency slider, which would affect the pitcher's pitching attributes with slight decreases, etc.

I just want more realism and less staleness, and I think these elements would really add to the game, especially in Franchise mode. And similarly, a Streaky Slider for batters would also add to the realism.

Finally, I'm still waiting for the devs to give us the ability to push the R3 button when up at bat to actually look around the entire stadium, sky, 360 degrees. I still can't understand why they limit the view to the third base line to the first base line. I want to see the whole stadium, the sunset, etc. I want to be fully immersed in the game and feel like I'm at the stadium. And I want them to allow us to choose random cameras around the stadium to view the field from various seats in the stadium, so we could feel like a fan at the game. They've already begun this with the added cut scenes, but I wish they would give us the ability to control the view from specific seats and at any point during the game.

There is a consistency slider. Did you mean a consistency attribute? Because that's what the BB/9 and control attribute do.

I'm actually not a fan of the scouting being done for me. I like figuring out what is and isn't working that night. It's not like pitchers, catchers, or managers get a handy pop up info screen telling them these things in real life. You just have the confidence meters on each pitch, which IMO is more than enough

Yah, I mean an attribute. I don't think the BB/9 and control attribute do it to the extent I'm looking for. Those are more of a general attribute - a pitcher with a really low rating in both will not be a very good pitcher - I'm looking for something that will change the consistency of a pitcher, where he could be excellent for a number of starts and then not be good.

You're right that pitchers don't get a handy pop-up screen in the middle of a game, but they don't have coaches hopefully helping out, telling them what they're noticing with the pitcher's pitches, mechanics, etc.

I kind of feel like it’s in the game already, but just “under the hood”. It seems like even my best pitchers have “off” starts and go into slump to some degree. You can definitely see it in the CPU pitchers as well, where they just won’t have good control on certain days and issue way more walks than usual (even more apparent if you do CPU vs CPU games).

I’m not sure how it’s exactly determined, but I agree it would be cool to see it fleshed out a bit more.

These things should just happen organically through event rates (ratings vs ratings), my decisions, and the ebb/flow of confidence/command. And with the Clutch rating impacting how the pitcher behaves when things are going against him (when runners in scoring position), there's a lot of diversity, imo. I call Clutch the "mentality rating" because it's the rating that makes me separate pitchers what fall apart when things go awry from the ones that battle.

Even with high ratings - and especially with relievers. Some are great...until a bloop and a bad call on 3-2 put a guy on second...then it's like I have a different man on the mound and not like he's got 90 H/9 and K/9.

The already "variable stuff" on top of even all of that as well. Which, again, seems more pronounced for relievers...but it's dramatic for starters, too.

I think Clutch impacts the rate of change up/down for confidence as well. For some reason I remember seeing that on here a few years back.

Use your own observations. You mentioned coaches, the catcher, and such...that's what they do - they observe and tell the pitcher "Maybe your cutter doesn't have it tonight - just seems to be getting hit harder. Let's try something else or try this approach with it."

If you "have this conversation" and change how you use the cutter (or stop using it) - it's the same effect.

I've had pitchers that just didn't have a pitch. Whether it was a snowball from initial failures or just "not tonight" I've had to "delete" a pitch. And, of course, if they all end up like that...it's going to be a battle of a start.

I know I've had these "conversations". Guy has nothing on the ball - I'm working even more out of the zone and trying to get him to just get something working, or if one pitch is working - I'm leaning on it as an out pitch or get back in the count pitch more as the game goes on, etc.

That's the same idea. "The coaches" observing what's happening in the game (i.e., you) and adjusting the approach of the pitcher accordingly (through your decision-making).

Same idea for hitters. I know my hitters are plenty streaky enough. Just last season, my lead off man with 95+ Contact and Vision, started off batting .230, worked his way up to .290, then back down to .250 and ended the year in the high .290's.

Meanwhile, my slugger - he stayed hot all year....until September. Average dropped from high .350's to low .330's.

And some guys I just know not to count on...unless they are hot. Which is fleeting, but I can notice it even without them having the "hot icon" (because they ain't that consistent to get it LOL)

Re: This game really needs a Consistency Slider

short of having a consistentcy attribute, I'd suggest setting the actual consistency slider to 5 for pitchers rated 70-79.

3 for under 60. 7 for over 89.

4 for 60-69 & 6 for 80-89.
