Hope FIFA 19' Has Stepped Up Its Gameplay From Last Year...

Because PES 19's Demo is out, and it is good. REALLY good. Gameplay feel is excellent- just as smooth, slow, and sophisticated as PES 18', but defending feels better with more individualism. I hope FIFA 19's gameplay is substantially similar to PES 19's gameplay, and if so, then in my opinion FIFA 19' is going to significantly separate itself from PES than what we have seen in recent years.

In my opinion, FIFA's gameplay feel has lagged more and more behind PES over the last few years, resting on its licenses laurels. Yes, the stadiums, kits, and commentary are far better in FIFA than PES. Yes, the Frostbite engine helped some last year, but there is still a lot of work be done. And yes, having both the Champions and Europa Leagues is a hell of a snag by FIFA away from PES. But FIFA 18's gameplay still felt far too rigid with players behaving more like squirrels on steroids than natural footballers building up a well-calculated attack from box to box.

Despite all of PES' shortcomings in stadiums, kits (and there have been great files to upload authentic kits/names into PES), and commentary last year, it was nice to just play a naturally great game of football and not have to tweak sliders here and there, week after week, trying to get a game feel like the real deal, like we have to do every year with FIFA. And PES offers far more with international play/tournaments because it has about 30-35 more countries than FIFA.

I'm cautiously optimistic about what I have seen and read this year with FIFA 19' though, especially when it comes to tactics, through balls, and 50-50 battles. Hopefully career mode has a little more to it. Think we'll have an overall better product- the question is how much better?

Thoughts...?

Gameplay is arguably much worse this year. Lots of issues in the game as far as gameplay right now. Hopefully it's much different at launch.

I'm curious in to what you think is much worst? I played the FIFA 19 beta and thought it was better actually than FIFA 18 with my first impressions in how it felt. I also felt that the pace and flow of the FIFA 19 beta was probably the best for a fifa demo in the last 5 years or so which was a good sign to me. I mean it's not overall that much difference to me though in terms of gameplay... and i do think there is a bigger difference in gameplay upgrade from PES18 to PES19 beta. I played less than 10 matches on fifa demo though when compared to like 30 on PES

^^This. I've been banging out match after match with the beta and I'm enjoying it, definitely way more than 18. Lots will depend on how it shapes up before release but single player is looking especially great this year.

It's uplifting to hear more beta tests review here, said to myself that I had zero expectations, I think I just revaluate with reason, but that indicates good for FIFA 19. And the eternal Pes vs Fifa is just as much emotion as understandings and it is rare a wise approach to ratings.

One of the biggest issues in 19 is that the area that players take up is bigger... it's a weird thing to explain without showing it, but basically where a ball would roll past a dude who couldn't reach it in 18 now in 19 they magically get there. This results in a crazy overload of interceptions and destroys the flow of the game. Lob are horribly inaccurate. Towards the end of the beta it got to where shooting was completely off. Their new super shot thing (whatever it's called) is a joke. Half the time i got it perfect the shots went off the bar or straight to the middle of the goal right to the keeper. There's a ton of issues with the game and the gameplay feels crazy choppy now because players take up more space than they should, which is a shame because fifa has historically been very good at allowing a ball to go through a tight space if it does not actually touch someone, but not this year. I could go on and on, but i was very disappointed with the gameplay this year, especially any time you're playing against another person like in FUT or local 1 v 1

Don't want to completely dismiss your opinion, because I have not played the beta, and I know that when EA decide to do thing "A" they can sometimes overdo it, out of fear that people will not notice. BUT, what you're saying is actually selling 19 to me, because one of my complaints with 18 was that the game made passes and shots magically happen (often with comical animations too).

Typical forward driven pass in fifa 18 for me:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PYFFOiP6jy0

The pass is not even on. There are 2 players that could block it. The defender magically jumps to avoid blocking the pass even though he has his back turned, and the opponent (who actually has a perfect view), doesn't even stick a foot out. Riiiiight. This is not "good flow", it's simplistic connect the dots passing, no one will stop you. More interceptions will make me think about passes now, there should be a bigger gameplay variety and when you string together lots of them it may actually feel satisfying.

Like I said though, I haven't played the beta, so I would still like to see what it is that you don't like.
