Can someone give me tips on striking to the body now?

I'd say i'm a decently high level player and used to be good at mixing up my striking to the body and head. However, after this new update the momentum for body punches just seems off, you can do a simple jab-straight to the body or straight-lead hook to the body while they've just started moving back and it wont land, just seems to stop you in your tracks. Even though when you watch people combo body shots in real life it doesn't do that at all, hard to explain really, but the momentum in it just seems really weird. Kicks to the body are too easy to catch as the window is massive on them, essentially parrying from last year. Any tips? Any new combos to try? I've kind of switched over to doing more leg kicks than body shots as I just can't seem to land them.

Do them at close range while moving sideways. Also do it after your opponent finishes a combination. Just always be on alert for the dreaded jab uppercut lead hook.

the feint jab to lead body hook is good too. Note that a normal jab lead body hook will often miss

That seems to rely very heavily on your opponent not being the aggressor with the stupid spam to blow your guard.

Actually its more effective against aggresive opponents and less against counter fighters

I don't see how, especially since people on this game are always ready to catch you with the hook spam, the combos you're talking about you really need to sit down on them which I just don't get why.

I appreciate the reponse btw, just seems like that scenario will really only be achievable a few times a fight. With no real way to divert someones block from their head.

You have to pin them to the cage to land body punches in my experience.

Yeah i've noticed that too, but that's risky in its own right, as a body shot always leaves you open to a counter. I just don't see why it's like that.

Because body shots are hard as hell to land in a real fight. You will never see someone lunge forward winging left and right body hooks in real life. Body shots need to be set up to be thrown in open space and the opponent needs to be relatively stationary. You will only see Nick Diaz throw 50 hooks to the body in a row when the opponent is trapped in the cage.

The reality is body shots are not a primary form of offense for any MMA fighter in open space. And with this new patch you can absolutely manufacture situations to land clean body shots. Aggressive fighters are very susceptible because they are moving forward and guys that back up can be cornered on the cage.

I’m sorry that everyone can’t spam 123b as their primary combo anymore. It requires a little finesse now.
