NBA 2K19 Gameplay Improvements
I’ll start with some gameplay features that need improvements and then I’ll get into game modes.
Latency:
I feel like this is a very big issue for online gamers. Basketball is a very fast paced game so when you have a lot of input lag/latency in it things like Defense become unreliable. You already have dribble “gods” on this game doing ridiculously fast dribble moves and speed bursts that it becomes impossible to defend sometimes with so much input lag.
Defense:
Another VERY important feature that I believe they need to pay more attention to when it comes to making improvements. I know people will argue with me but Sharpshooters are highly OP this year again. I understand Sharpshooters should make a high percentage of there shots when wide open, that makes sense. But I’ve seen sharpshooters take smothered jumpshots and make them at a very high percentage. Its so bad that when your playing pro-am and one of your teammates is an AI thats guarding a sharpshooter on the other team they can literally just shoot in there face as if there not standing in front of them.
Weight Has To Matter:
Weight was said to have mattered this year. In some aspects I see it work but then most of the time it doesn’t work so well. I’ve seen Centers literally get backed down by other Centers until they are completely out of bounds and then get dunked on. Doesn’t make sense that a center can push another big around as if he were a PG.
Canned Animations:
You ever click triangle to contest a shooters shot and it does that animation where you touch the floor first and then contest?... Yeah... Have you stood still on defense while your opponent spams dribble moves until they get an ankle breaker animation?... yeah... Have you passed a ball to a open cutting player and when they catch the ball it falls out of there hand right after just to be a TO?... yeah... Have you ever tried diving for a loose ball only to look like a fool jumping on everything BUT the basketball?... Sadly... yes. 2K needs better physics and better animations instead of these canned 2 player animations. Losing control of your player the majority of the time in a sports game can be VERY frustrating.
Ball Tangibility:
Countless times I see dribble “gods” (lol) dribble into a crowd of defenders only to still have the basketball in there hands. This needs to be fixed because it doesn't properly show that “Stick Skills Matter”. The game literally chooses different times for when the ball becomes intangible. I've heard that this is because they haven't came up with a way for AI to protect the ball well. Whatever needs to be done please do it 2K because this takes the immersion out of the game and also make's playing good defense not rewarding at all.
Better Physics:
Now one thing I notice in NBA Live 18 is that body collisions are done quite well. When you collide with someone in the air it actually feels more realistic. Obviously its not the best but its something NBA 2K has been lacking. I believe if they want to truly have a better “feel” to the game then they need to do some HEAVY improvements to the physics and body collisions.
Passing:
You ever pass to a guy 5 feet from you wide open only to throw it out of bounds?... Yeah... you every throw a pass to somebody only for it to be slowed down for somebody to steal it?... Passing is one of the most important things in basketball. It needs to be implemented better in 2K. Countless times defenders who are out of position can easily get back to there man in time if its passed to them because of slow passing speeds. I understand every player is not an elite passer but the passes are ridiculously slow sometimes and they need to be fixed. Also let players with higher passing ratings actually show a difference in passing. While speeding up passes overall would help the game in general, why not add a lil extra speed on elite passers passes too? It would make having an elite passer actually worth something because he can fire a pass to the open man way quicker and more efficiently then others. Fumbling passes on every pass shouldn’t be a thing unless the passer was defended well or double teamed also.
Overall better player control needs to be a thing in NBA 2K19. I’ve never played a game and said to myself SO many times “Why is my player doing this” or “Thats not what I’m trying to do”.
Pro-AM:
Make playbooks available to Pro-Am teams with better on court play art. I’ve tried running the smart plays that are already set on Pro-AM with my team and they actually work well against other teams. But sometimes the play art can be confusing or hardly visible to some players. Also, it would be nice to setup certain plays for certain players that better fit there playstyle. What would make this even BETTER is if there was a "practice plays" section for you and your pro am team to practice plays against AI. If 2K makes this a thing it would encourge good basketball to be played and actually make people watching other people play the game more enjoyable “cough” “E-League” “cough.
Also, another big thing for me is the presentation for Pro-AM and the online neighborhood mode period. It’s too dull. Pro-AM is in a high school gym with a crowd that sounds very dull. All you hear is guys on the court and the basketball bouncing around. COMMENTARY, COMMENTARY, COMMENTARY is highly needed in this game mode. We don’t need real life broadcasters to do the voice overs if thats too much, it can literally be any group of people that sound good commentating a pro am game. Let the commentary talk about a certain players last game where he went off for 30 points or having 15 assists and leading his team to victory just like they do in MyCareer. They can even talk about a bad loss they took the game before and how they want to try to bounce back this game. They already say our name in the PA system why not say it in some commentary. Also, action replays of nice plays and zoom ins on players celebrating after scoring from time to time and a short halftime show of quick replays of some good plays from the first half.
Let timeouts matter this year in Pro-AM also. Give us 1 minute to change matchups instead of us doing it in game. Let us choose an inbound play from a timeout that sets our players in the right spots for a play.
I’ll make another thread diving way deeper into Pro-AM and other onlines mode probably later today since this thread is already very long. Leave your comments below and let me know what you think and what you believe they should improve for NBA 2K19
