Getting Closer to getting College Hoops Back

With all of the college hoops scandals coming out, it appears that the NCAA is going to revamp the rules in the off season and players will be getting compensated in some way. At the very least they will be able to profit off of their likeness. I would not be surprised if we saw a new game this time next year.

Wow that's huge..... This is the place for me to say this. But something needs to change. We keep going in circles on the subject. So much money is made.

Honestly... I think the NCAA is closer to being irrelevant than to paying players. Title IX still exists, so they can't pay players without paying every player in the NCAA. If I were the NBA I'd completely abandon the one and done create an expanded G-league and have 18 and 19 year olds go directly to the G-league.

Even if you pay every player 50k, we are talking hundreds of thousands of dollars to top recruits here. I don't think this is going to end well.

I would love to see Choops be brought back by 2k. But compensating college athletes wont solve this major issue. Because it wont be a level playing field, there will still be bribes going on.
Until the NBA does away with this age limit, and has a full fledged minor league system like MLB has, we will continue to see scandals in college basketball
Since NCAA is separate from the NBA, there isnt much that can be done, but hopefully the NBA league office sees the benefits of having a full fledge minor league system like baseball has. It dont have to be different levels, like we have in MILB, just a AAA NBA minor league where every NBA team has their own minor league affiliate, I believe would solve most of the problem indirectly for college basketball and the NCAA.
There will always be some who will try to cheat, its just the way some people are unfortunately. Im one who believes college athletes do get paid already, as its called a free education. So if there was another avenue for your top highschool players, so they werent forced to have to go to college for 1 yr, and be able to stay in the USA, instead of having to go overseas for a yr before entering the NBA, then you would have kids going to college with more of a priority on education, over using it as just a stepping stone for a yr till they can enter the NBA draft.
Some kids just arent cut out for college, heck if I back in the day would have been good enough to play in the NBA, but had to go to college for a yr, before I could go pro, I would probably go to a college where my coach wouldnt care if I went to class, and I got paid on top of it,lol.
Im not against the NCAA compensating college athletes, but common sense should tell anyone, it wont stop bribery, after all its not like you can pay college players several hundred thousands of dollars to play at your school. You have to have a set amount for every scholarship athlete, no matter whether he is the best player, or the last scholarship athlete on the bench who only plays garbage minutes.

Nothing would make me happier than to see CH2k come back, as I would rather play CH2k than NBA2k. But Im not going to get my hopes up, and I sure the heck know that the NCAA office hands are tied to a extent, they really cant solve the issue. Its really on the NBA office, to change their rules, and I believe a full minor league system for every NBA team could go along way in solving NCAA problem for them.

Neither the NCAA nor the schools should pay the players, IMO. I personally dont think it will ever come to that. All athletes would still recieve the same scholarship. That should kill Title 9 concerns. Just let the players with market value (a small percent) capitalize on it financially in the free market.

Im with you. The NBA has the development league. Just let players with no desire whatsoever for college play there and get paid. I also think the NCAA loosening the reigns some and allowing the players with clear value the opportunity to cash in on it without violating NCAA rules would cut out a lot of the slimy stuff.

Players should be able to make money off their likeness.... That's all I think should be able to happen. Paying them could turn into a mess. But letting them go out there and making money like the coaches do. Yup I'm all for it. Paying could by a problem. But hearing that story of AD signing things. And then the person turns around and sells it for X amount of cash. By the it was "Brow" shirt he signed. He can't even make off it. The best example I heard the other day. Was music student doesn't get rules for playing a big gig.

Yeah, some of the rules are a little ridiculous. Heck many yrs ago, back when Steve Alford was at IU, he was asked to pose for a picture, on a calendar for charity, and there was a issue with that. Fortunately it was just a 1 game suspension, unfortunately it was against Kentucky, lol.

Any kid deserves to be able to make money off his own likeness, I dont care how old he is. No one throws a fit when money is thrown at these young children actors, who then a lot of time grow up with drug and alcohol addictions, and are mentally unstable in many cases, yet its OK to do that, but a college athlete cant make money of his own likeness.

I know part of the issue, is just being able to keep track of things, to make sure everything is on the up and up, but there are always going to be cheaters and scammers around. NCAA was so concerned, about integrity, then why the heck they let Kelvin Sampson and others like him back in college basketball for. Pete Rose can be banned for life from baseball, then a coach or anyone associated with the NCAA cheats, ban them for life from the game, simple as that.

IMO its a little ridiculous that a talented kid cant be paid to be in a video game. The NCAA could work out a deal with a video game maker, to where the kids get the money from the video game maker. If they truly cared about the kids that is, the NCAA would do that.
