Finishing: Why is it so hard?

I have been playing ranked for a couple days against the best players currently and I wanted to voice some concern that I have. Don't get me wrong, I still finish a lot of fights but it's usually a result of whittling away my opponents stamina over 2-3 rounds and forcing a body-head TKO.

There are too many opportunities for the opponent to regenerate health and block meter on the ground in my opinion, and makes it very hard to TKO them in positions like back side or finish fights after knockdowns because you end up in the guard.

But my issue is that it feels too hard to finish the fight at many points where it feels like it should be over. Active knockdowns, being forced to jump into guard or feet on hips after a knockdown which gives the opponent time to regenerate health during those animations and a lack of responsiveness when trying to enter a finish the fight animation if I tried to enter it too soon ( opposed to UFC 2 when you spam the punch button to jump on your opponent after a knockdown )

Some people make a lot of mistakes and it's easy to finish them with a clean KO, but my gripe is that there just aren't enough TKO opportunities where they should be. Active knockdowns feel pointless besides tallying up points towards the end of the round. This may just be me, but I've also had a lot more trouble breaking the block opposed to the beta. So please weigh in with your opinions!

I'm curious too.

How do you get the animation where you have a chance to come in and rain down punches? ...or a quick sub?

I always go into the animation where I stand directly in front of the my downed opponent.

Re: Finishing: Why is it so hard?

If you deal strikes doing enough damage to cause a more severe knockdown, you'll be able to jump on the opponent and you'll have the option to deal quick strikes or use a finish the fight submission. This is the animation you're talking about.

The animation where you stand directly infront of your opponent sounds like the " Feet on hips " position, which is what I'm saying is where I most commonly end up after the majority of knockdowns that I feel like should result in a more obtainable finish.

Ok, makes sense.

I think turning up the DAMAGE slider might help with this.

Re: Finishing: Why is it so hard?

Have a great deal of trouble breaking my opponents block. It's not just you or I almost everyone is. It's something that needs looked into for sure.

I would have won 90% of my fights if this wasn't an issue.

Re: Finishing: Why is it so hard?

After playing it a great deal since release, I feel this now isn't a knee jerk reaction and more a opinion Ive formed -

The damage needs to be put up even more. As said it is still to hard to finish opponents UNLESS they are in the vulnerability window. It's almost impossible to KO or KD from just attacking if they arent swinging at you

In career, the CPU just stands and blocks in the early fights and you struggle to KO them unless they throw some digs

Beacuse Ive been playing mostly online, Ive not used the sliders yet - is there a big difference when damage is set to max? Does it play more realistically?

We should be doing whatever we can do get it to realistic damage levels and realistic strike output

Re: Finishing: Why is it so hard?

Yeah, breaking the block seems harder for me but even ruling out the possibility that it isn't there shouldn't be as many opportunities for someone to recover during transition animations. I do a ton of damage to people and still only get the option to jump into their guard, and they just spam head grab to full guard while they regenerate. Active knockdowns are frustrating as well, while they appeared as something very cool they just serve no purpose besides distinguishing a knockdown from a significant strike for the sake of scoring the round ( I have been told that it is possible to land a strike during some of the frames of the active knockdown, but I have had no success doing this so far. )

Another issue I have is that the block meter seems to reset or regenerate too quickly to allow for TKOs in a lot of ground positions, specifically back side.

Re: Finishing: Why is it so hard?

Assuming nothing's changed since the last time I checked.

The problem isn't in striking power. It's in how the health events work. They last a grand total of 3 seconds (Yes I counted). That's not long enough to put someone in any kind of danger.

I have a few ideas on how to fix the problem and make health events more immersive and devastating when they need to be. I'll probably create a topic about it somewhere this week..

A quick fix would be to simply quadruple the health event duration though..
