How to make shooting great again in 2k19

Ok so let me start by saying that I am an online mycareer player and therefore almost only play pro-am and park games so for any of you offline sim players out there that enjoy the current shooting system my hope is only that this could be implemented in online games to improve the skill gap.

Because for such an important part of basketball, shooting in 2k18 is terrible (in competitive online games I will stress again) since it is so random. To me it was also absolutely terrible in 2k17 because it was so easy to shoot and get a green release that everything went in an. I could watch a YouTuber with a Stretch Big literally trying to miss the shot by not even filling up the bar at all and still hitting. Just watch the first 10 seconds of this video.

So since 2k wasn't happy with how high percentages people were shooting online they made shooting more random instead of making it more difficult. You can now get a "broken" perfect release and in online games in the park and pro-am to me this is horrible.

So let me get to my idea of how to improve shooting in 2k19 or 2k20 by implementing a new shooting mechanic.

My idea is to remove the ability to shoot with the square/x button completely and instead you now shoot by pulling the right stick down but depending on where your player, that you control and want to shoot with, is on the court you have to show that in your shooting motion when using the right stick. Let's say you are shooting a 3pointer from the left corner then you have to pull the right stick to the left and then try releasing it at the perfect time. While if your player is standing at the top of the key shooting a 3pointer then you have to pull the right stick all the way down since that is your position on the court now and after that of course to try to time your shoot. This adds a new thing to the shooting mechanic which is aiming so now you not only have to time your shoot perfectly you also have to aim perfectly depending on where you are on the court. I love this idea myself because it adds a whole new dynamic to shooting and I imagine it will be a lot harder and will take more practice since now you can't just concentrate on releasing the ball properly but you also have the aim with the right stick depending on where you are on the court with your player.

Plus there is one more big factor that I like and already have explored in 2k17. Shooting with the right stick is simply harder and there is a bigger chance of error than using the square. The YouTuber Agent00 explains it perfectly in this video so please watch it.

To determine whether or not the shot should go in can as I see it now be made much more simple and easy because the mechanic is harder so the game doesn't have to punish good releases because it isn't easy to shoot anymore. I imagine it could be like this YouTuber itzRease describes.

However with the new aiming technique there should now be two parameters that determine whether you miss or hit the shot. A timing bar and an aiming bar. As itzRease explains in the video if you hit the "green" window the shot goes in and if you don't hit it it doesn't go in. And your rating determines how big the "green" window of your timing and aiming bar is as explained in the video. Another part that I like however is that the shot contest from the defense can be implemented easy in to this to make it more like in real life. On a wide open shot your "green" windows isn't affected at all but on a sligthly contested shot the "green" windows get smaller and the shot therefore gets harder to hit so you can even let the controversial heavily contested shots go in because the two "green" windows on your timing and aiming bar is affected by the defense so it takes a lot of skill from the player shooting to hit the shot and the defending player feels less cheated by the game since the player knows that his good defense mattered and it made the shot harder but it was just a very good timed shot by the shooting player with NO randomness involved in it. Just like in real life.

Sorry for any grammatical errors because I'm not a native english speaker. But please let me know what you guys think of this. I would love some constructive criticism because I have fallen in love with this idea myself lol.

So nobody want to talk about it ?

Think its a good idea the more people are punished for being bad at the game the better there is soo much bailout bs cause of high ovr its soo frustrating.

Of course system like that would need to be implemented without glitches and be tested.

Leaning shots for guys who have catch and shoot badge should be removed.

I think this is an incredibly intriguing concept, something I would personally enjoy, but it will never happen.

The majority of the 2k community would lose it's **** over this, complain immensely, and it would be patched within a week lol. It's "too complex," for the average 2k user (it really isn't IMO, but yea).

As an average Joe 2K player, I oppose the idea of removing the square button as a shoot button. I have been playing since 2K3 and I have been used to the square button for such a long time that taking it away completely would ruin my experience.

Same here. I've been using a button to shoot in basketball games since Double Dribble on the NES. I'm not about to change.

I honestly wouldn't even buy 2k19 if they took away button shooting.

Re: How to make shooting great again in 2k19

I don’t use the meter but shooting with the RS is easier imo. I made the switch cause it feels like there’s less of a delay. I feel like when I press square there’s like a tenth of a second between pressing square and the start of the animation.

Shooting is already op. I rather it hear towards real life shooting percentages.

This is possible. Go to controller settings and change pro stick orientation to absolute. Its litterally what you’re describing minus so the timing and green windo stuff. Not many people know about this cause it’s been hidden since 2k16
