your best performing low OVR player

i just found a gem in my third string rb... redshirt freshman, 71 OVR, and is now averaging over 100 yards rushing through his first three starts. this is a pretty big deal, because my team hasn’t had a good run game in... i don’t even know. the guy that was in front of him (80 ovr) broke out in similar fashion last season, but has since struggled to return to that form.

any similar stories?

off the top of my head... an even better story. casey leuck was a RB from my original TB roster that was probably a 60-65 ovr r-freshman. i don’t remember why, but he ended up starting and broke for like 150 yards in his first game. we then landed an elite transfer RB so leuck’s days were cut short there. didnt want him to ride the pine, so i threw him in the slot at like 69 ovr.

pretty sure he had over 1,000 yards in his first transition season. for a while he held team records in both rushing & receiving.

I had a WR on my West Virginia squad that was a 75 at his position that I didn't recruit. Wish I didnt corrupt the dynasty so I could have his name lol but in my second season with the squad we made it to the Cotton Bowl. During the game, both my starter and backup went out with major injuries. I usually recruit at least one speed back, but I hadn't yet because the need wasn't there yet. So instead, I moved the WR to starting HB. He was a 59 ovr at HB but went crazy. 119 yards(if I'm not mistaken) and two TDs, including the game winner in OT over a stacked Auburn team.

Re: your best performing low OVR player

Two guys come to mind in my PSU dynasty.

One was CB Tulac Wise. Almost cut him after his FR year, rating was like 64 or something. Wound up redshirting and in his sophomore year he came in for reps during a blow out win. Wound up getting a sack. Next time, it was a pick.
Next year as a JR, made him a nickel and he wasn't a superstar but just made plays every so often.

The other was RB Kevin "Groundhog or G-Hog Bell".

Early in my PSU dynasty, he was forced into action as a SR. Had like an 85 rating. All he did was grind out 100 years every game for the last half of the season and make the incumbent lose his job.

Loved those two guys!

Re: your best performing low OVR player

Not sure if this would be considered low, but my 80 ovr JR QB took the starting role over my 90 Ovr Senior QB.

Week 1 he came in after a bad first quarter from my SR qb (6/15 & 1 int). The JR threw for 4 td 0 ints. I thought it was a fluke game since it was against a FCS team. After a week 2 loss against Michigan i put him as starter and he has been hot ever since.

I understand that i didn't give my SR much playing time, but the JR is leading the league in passing yards 2100 (week 6) and has 20 TDs and only 2 picks. He may be in the hiesman race soon enough

Re: your best performing low OVR player

My favorite low rated player story so far in my dynasty was Champ Davis with Northwestern. A white dude with pretty realistic white-dude ratings that correlated well with his size, he simply put up an awesome effort in the 2018 season. So just for old-time's sake, I'll round up all the info I posted about him in what was honestly a stupendous season. In the around the week Week 12, I wrote:

NU's Champ Davis is having a season worth remembering

Running back James Dixon was the #1 starter heading into the season when he
suffered a foot stress fracture that would see him miss the majority of the season.
Backup Champ Davis has stepped in admirably and leads the nation in rushing yards.
The Wildcats like to run the ball, but even so, Davis has not done it with sheer
volume. He's done it with a 6.6 yards per carry average.

The Wildcats have mixed up their running back usage in a way that defies typical
CPU activities, so it's worth looking at their season. In Game 1, Dixon was not the
leader in carries despite presumably being healthy. Davis went 23/129/1 in that one.
The next week is when Dixon suffered the major injury. Lee Lawson saw the majority
of the carries and Davis got just 7 touches on the game. In a W vs. Duke, Davis
took the job with 22/160/1. Davis trucked Michigan State for 26/190/2 even though
NU lost, 21-42. Penn State Beat the Wildcats but but Davis went 29/152/1. The
Golden Gophers also came away with a win but not before Davis and his 31/287/3
had their say. After a bye week, Davis faced Iowa and suffered an injury that would
see him miss most of the game, yet he led with 14/88. Purdue was NU's second win
and Champ had something to do with that - 39/241/2. Then last week, Davis
hammered on Wisconsin for 39/238/3. He is having simply an amazing season and
what makes it more interesting is that he is not all that highly rated. he also does
NOT catch passes. (2 rec, 24 yds on the season). It will be a crime if Dixon comes
back into the fold and regains the starting job with how Davis has torn it up.

Champ Davis: 6'2" 233 - 229 car, 1517 yds, 6.6 avg, 13 TD
82 OVR, 84 SPD, 94 ACC, 77 AGI, 76 TRK, 85 ELU, 85 BCV, 82 STR, 85 STA

I think he played two more games and I didnt not wrap up his end of the season numbers, I kind of feel remiss. Northwestern had a bad year, but Champ Davis had a great one and he was awesome. He didn't win any awards and he did not make the first or second team in the conference, I have no idea how.

2034 PSU Dynasty...

2033, Ben Talyor was an athlete who we sacrificed as a FB as we had no depth there. In 2034, We recruit a FB and move Ben to CB cause we are thin there.

Several injuries result in him playing in several packages and all he does is make plays. Last game @ NEB he has 7 tackles, two deflections and a FR. Game before that a pick.

The fun part? He’s a 71 overall playing on a 97 overall team where most starters are 80 and above.

The really fun part.....being in tune with a dynasty that you can sense these players even without looking at the stats per game. My main receiver in my Bowling Green dynasty, white guy, he's a SR. 5'8" 181lbs. I didnt recruit him, but have him as my #1 go to guy in tight games. He doesnt lead the nation or even conference, isnt very good at deep balls since he's short and doesnt have blazing speed. But he has 98 acceleration, awesome on routes, and can evade tackles. I love recruiting for the race horse players, but just as much satisfaction of stumbling on a work horse while playing.

Re: your best performing low OVR player

In my Eastern Michigan dynasty I recruited a juco guy with just ridiculous speed stats. All upper 90s in his speed, ACC, agility, etc. Won the heisman with him. I did the same thing with my previous Navy dynasty except he may not have won the Heisman. Both were mid 70s OVR

For guys like that once the season is over I will edit their ratings so they will be drafted. It's unrealistic otherwise for a guy with those stats not to be.
