Fantasy Draft Philosophy

I love drafting teams every year for franchise, I was wondering what kind of philosophy you guys are using for this years game.

I'll typically draft my quarterback first if I'm a top 15 pick, and then I'll load my defense. I usually love drafting a pair of shutdown corners, but it seems like this year it doesn't really matter which is frustrating as it's one of my favorite positions to play.

Another thing I always do is draft a monster offensive line, literally I'll use five picks in a row on lineman after my skill positions are filled.

I've done dozens and dozens of drafts, and I just can't seem to settle in on which positions are important and which aren't. What positions do you typically wait on? Which attributes are you specifically looking for at certain positions?

Re: Fantasy Draft Philosophy

I always go for a nasty defense. usually a 3-4 with a ferocious pass rush. thats how I like to play.

this is my favorite one so far, my most recent draft

Re: Fantasy Draft Philosophy

I stack up on defense and RB/WR (depending on how quickly the drop off in talent is) first and typically wait to get a QB until much later on. And when I do get a QB, it's usually a veteran who can still play for a year or two until I draft my QB of the future. For example in my last fantasy draft, my starting QB was Eli Manning.

I also draft offensive linemen last out of my starters. There's usually tons of quality left even in the later rounds.

I always go for a defensive team. Personally I like a 4-3 with 2 speed rushing ends, and man coverage corners

Re: Fantasy Draft Philosophy

If you enjoy fantasy draft vs the CPU - playing in a 32 player fantasy draft is the ultimate experience!!!

When you draft vs CPU - lots of young, high development, top skilled players fall in the draft where you can take them in the mid rounds - that does not happen in our league!!!

Having 32 players is awesome but can be difficult to put together (we been playing for 10 plus years together so we know our league will go year round and we will play 8 to 10 seasons - so players are cool with committing to a long fantasy draft...) - I understand when you get 32 strangers together the commitment level can vary;

Having less then 32 players in league is fun too but because the CPU is not a savvy fantasy drafter each player under 32 is at least 3% easier to draft - so in a 22 player league you should have a 30% better team then if you drafted against 32 keen humans... But striking a balance between having CPU teams vs having owners who are less committed is a decision worthy of debate...

In 32 fantasy draft league you mist strike a balance of veteran players that can help you win now and young players you can develop in the future!!!! It's interesting how each owner approaches that dilemma via their fantasy draft selections!

The other part of a fantasy draft league that appeals to our community is that everyone is on 100% equal ground - nobody has the top rated or lowest rated team - your team skill is decided by the players you draft!
