Pro-am position

We need better match making. I rather wait much longer to play my actual position. Sure I’m tall but that doesn’t mean my guy is meant for other positions. Just cuz I didn’t make a 7’3 340lb cheese center doesn’t mean I can cover a stretch 4. Let me play center wtf

Is there really that big of a difference from playing a stretch 4, than playing a stretch 5?

I see no issue with a C being matched up as a PF?

If that stretch 4 isn't a stretch 5 also playing at the 4, but a legit stretch 4 in size then I can see how that'd be tough to guard.

Plus there is the chance that he made his guy with the idea of guarding the paint. If he is matched up against a stretch 5 that's one thing. That'd be like playing a team that can just stretch the floor like that. You just have to adjust. But if you're on the perimeter because you're mispositioned, that'd be like telling rudy gobert, "go guard ryan anderson". If I'm rudy in that situation, I'm pissed because that isn't what I do.

I don't see this problem as something that's so egregious that it's unbearable, but just frustrating. Pro am is like playing under a bad coach. At some point you gotta ask that coach why is our spacing this horrible? Why do you have ben gordon jr, running the point? Why are you running 3 7 footers in one lineup?

Listen man, talk to me when you're a 6'5 SG guarding a 7'3 stretch PF.

I don't disagree with your examples, but let me put it simplistically:

A Center, playing the Power Forward position in a Pro AM game, is more than a reasonable matchmaking option.

TBH, everytime you join Pro AM, there will be a mismatch for at least one position.

I've played Pro AM on a 7'3 340 lb rebounding post scorer.

I was guarding 6'9 C Pure Sharpshooter.

Is that fair for me? No.

Is that a fair matchmaking system? Yes.

I've had to guard a 6'10 pure playmaking SF while I was a 7'3 340 lb post scorer for ****s sake. There's an advantage on both side IMO and I actually enjoy the challenge. It is what it is, you can't create a 7'3 340 lb guy and expect to ONLY play tall, slow big men.

FWIW - Rudy Gobert could probably guard Ryan Anderson lol

This is a non issue.

Re: Pro-am position

The odd mismatches are a necessary evil considering the lack of saturation in positions 2 - 4. Centers and point guards would be waiting forever for games if they didn’t flex players into other positions. I do think there could be some improvements to their matchmaking, though, as I’ve been in games with 3 7’3” centers when the biggest guy on the other team was 6’7” with 4 point guards.

I’m a 7’3” Two-way Rebounder so when I’m pulled out of position against a small perimeter player, it really blows. I don’t have enough offensive tools to bully my matchup and all my defensive skills are heavily neutralized by being stuck at the 3 point line. But those are the breaks when you choose a popular position. Luckily most players have terrible basketball IQ so my matchup will either try and drive on me or his teammates won’t pass to him. So I can hover near the paint for boards and blocks without being exposed.

I wasn't saying rudy gobert couldn't guard ryan anderson, of course he could. I'm saying putting him on the perimeter is a wild misuse of his talent. And if you liken matched lineups to rotation/lineup management OP's frustration is like getting mad at the coach for putting you in outdated twin tower lineups while you get torched by a quicker person. I understand the need to do this for matchmaking purposes, but that doesn't invalidate the frustration that comes with it.

I also wasn't saying that I should play slow guys just because I'm 7'3 340lbs. If they run a stretch 5 and I don't adjust then that's my fault. But if I'm put into that position because that is our gameplan, then I'm gonna be pissed at whoever made that faulty gameplan. Its just that in this case, 2k's matchmaking made that gameplan

But I don't know maybe this is getting painted a certain way because of that frustration word. When this happens I'm not like 2k fix your game frustrated. I'm more so "somebody help or do something because I obviously can't" frustrated

Re: Pro-am position

Yeah I’m out at pf cuz I’m 7’1 and not 7’3 and then their pf is really a tall SF and the speed difference is just too much. I want to play inside the paint If I get a stretch 5 at least he’s not gettin boards and his speed his the same as mine. Sadly the match making is better in the nhl beta I played
