What's the point of playing preaseason matches?

Confused by this preseason we got going on with supermax right now.

Does playing these games count for anything? Do we get points that count for our season points total?

I would think so. If you sweeped the placement matches, you got placed in the sapphire tier and I started with 800 points. Only needed 800 more to reach pink diamond.

If that's the case, ppl can really abuse the no cap weekends to get a great head start. Wish they were more clear about the breakdown of points n stuff.

To my understanding there are new placement matches AFTER this preaseason when the new round starts. So I'm wondering if there really is any reason to play these games instead of just wasting contracts.

We won't know for sure till the new round starts though.
But knowing 2k....LMAO!

There won't be any placement matches anymore. You get directly placed depending on your preseason record if you have played, or last round's record if you didn't played any preseason game.
