Let's talk about offensive rebounding...

Wanted to get you guys thoughts on offensive rebounding....

IMO, it seems like there is an issue with teammates not properly blocking out causing an overabundance of OREBs....I'm seeing a lot of instances where an out of position player will come flying in untouched for a board...like their reaction time to the ball coming off the rim is much quicker than everyone else's...

I use the 05 Spurs a lot (PNO) so I benefit from this with prime TD a lot of the time...but I still think it's something that could use work...

What are you guys seeing?

It's incredibly frustrating. My team seems to just stand still during rebounds, giving up a huge amount of offensive boards. Was wondering if it was just me or not!

Re: Let's talk about offensive rebounding...

I've been giving up my share of offensive boards. I'm the Pacers and played a Pelicans user and gave up 25 offensive boards to them. 17 of them were to Cousins and Davis combined.

I have noticed the following things:

1. If I give up an open shot, I'm giving up the offensive rebound. This has been the general rule for quite awhile as I think the game is setup this way. I've always just prepared myself to expect this to always happen when I give up an open shot. So just remember that if you give up a ton of open looks you're most likely going to get killed on the boards.
2. If I contest with triangle, I'm giving up the offensive rebound.
3. Some guys play in such a way that they don't shoot until their teammate is in position to get the offensive rebound increasing their chances above the norm.

Whether is a problem or not, I'm not ready to say even though I've given up multiple 20 plus offensive board games and one where I only got 1 in the same game lol.

I play some guys who really know how to play so I know I need to improve my defense still since I play all auto and manually try and figure stuff out.

Just keep in mind if you get out of position somehow, you'll pay for it. Learn how not to get out of position and you'll do better at protecting the boards.

Easier said than done of course.

Are you guys blocking out? Or using crash the glasses.

The rebounds I've seen look real. And the numbers match up too.

I feel like its almost a balancing act for the game to run properly, i know that if i get 4 offensive rebounds my opponent is going to get 4 or more sooner or later, no matter if i set rebounds to crash the glass. Reminds me of how nba 2k13 operated, it was clockwork every game with the offensive rebounds.

Slow, unathletic bigs still get the benefit of high jumping animations that they really shouldnt. Ive seen Dirk, Zaza etc fly in over the top of other bigs to get OREBS when they can barely jump over a jar of honey.

Rebounding in general is just really off to me. Almost every game I play, either my big man or a big man on the other team gets over 20+ rebounds while the rest of their / my team mates have a very low amount of rebounds

I played a game against Memphis where both teams had FGAs in the low 70s, so tempo does play a role.
