Ever since Live returned to consoles with NBA Live 14, there has been an issue with interior passing/catching animations that really frustrate me because of my style of play. I’ve never really seen it addressed so I made a YouTube video with clips showing what I’m talking about.
In the first clip, I have a 2 on 1 situation with Horford and Baynes. I make the extra pass for an easy dunk, but because live doesn’t have catching animations from a standstill that step into a pass and then quickly transition into a dunk or layup, I end up with this clunky layup animation that turns into a foul ( I went 1/2 from the line). What should have been a quick, easy dunk becomes a frustrating sequence that looks and feels horrible.
In the second clip, I have a 2 on 1 after a pick and roll, but instead of Zaza staying in the dunker spot, he rotated up like he’s a three point shooter. This is more of a motion logic problem but it still affects my style of play. This should be an easy 2 on 1 layup.
In the third clip, it’s more of the same. This time Horford doesn’t even step in. He shoots a jump shot from right out side the paint. Thankfully it goes in, but still, if I work smart enough to get a 2 on 1 near the basket, it should result in a layup or dunk.
In the 4th clip I get Kd curling off a screen( which is another issue that needs to be addressed, it’s really hard sometimes) and get another 2 on 1. Thompson actually jumps at the pass, and it leaves Draymond wide open for a quick easy dunk. But because of Live’s lack of catching animations that simultaneously catch and gather for a layup or dunk, I get a super slow layup animation, a contact layup and a miss. I want to throw my controller when this happens lol.
The last clip is the most frustrating. I get another 2 on 1 near the rim, with my big man so wide open on the pass that I thought even if I get a slow layup animation, I’ll still get it off before help arrives. NOPE.I don’t even get a layup attempt off; it makes me shoot a jump shot, and I miss because this big man can only make layups or dunks.
Live Devs, please look to add quicker, smoother animations for catching from a standstill that allow the player to catch, step in, and finish in one smooth motion. Reward making the extra pass!
