NBA 2K18 Hands-On Impressions - Defense Part 1 of 2 (DmanUnt2014)

DmanUnt2014 has posted some more NBA 2K18 hands-on impressions, from his recent trip to 2K. In this video, he goes over defense (part 1 of 2). Some details taken from the video are seen below, thanks to Smirkin Dirk.
  • He feels he has more control. You arent being moved around.
  • The game allows you to stay on someone's hip.
  • Speed and strength matter when playing D.
  • Steal spamming has been nerfed.
  • More manual control about pick and rolls. He brought up the example of flicking the stick t get in position to go over picks. Brick wall nerfed.
  • Screens have no black hole effect.
  • Loose ball/pass awareness is much improved. Fights for loose balls.
  • Intense D is more effective when used with better defenders.
  • Right stick warping on D gone.
  • Defender has to be looking at the play to know when to help.

What's right stick warping?

Anything about dribble drives and brick wall defense? Or does the "staying on the hip of the player" apply to that

I'll watch this vid a bit later.

Any chance someone elaborates on "screens have no black hole effect"?

Liking intense D being more effective with better defenders. I would love to use the Spurs and really FEEL the difference with Kawhi to everyone else.

Also (heard this before from Brian) but the defender having to look at the play sounds promising. I'd imagine weaker defensive awareness players now will actually have a realistic liability factor - adds to the strategy (subbing in for offense/defense). Great (if implemented right).

And finally, staying on someone's hip. Could be a game changer for the dribble drive game. Intrigued about this in a big way.

I think he's talking about pro-am mode when defenders always seemed to get sucked into a screen animation even if they arent close to the screener.

We've heard a few snippets that suggest good and bad defenders will be a bigger thing. I think we'd all love being forced to keep bad defenders off the floor in certain matchups and being forced to sign defensive specialists.

Yep I think we're all tired of the constant bump backs.

If players with a higher defensive awareness swivel their heads more, react, help, rotate more, I can only imagine how much this adds to the game. A potentially brilliant addition IMO.

I use OKC primarily and can already picture the fun I'll have with using PG and Roberson. Roberson being a complete offensive liability will really force me to think about his usage. Love that.

To me, next step would be working on player weight/momentum/foot planting etc. This will affect pull up game, driving game in major ways.

We'd really be on the way to some amazing hoops gaming then.

Apparently you can warp to somebody by using the rightstick in a bail out type of way

yup if u push up on the right stick when playing off ball d you can warp to stay attached to a player or warp to push him off his route.

i discovered this accidentally on pro am but can imagine it works in H2H too
