Monster Hunter World (PS4, XBOX1, Switch, PC)

I've always been intrigued by Ark Survival Evolved but the developer's reputation arguably hasn't been reputable. Monster Hunter World was showcased and we're starting to get more information about it which seems to have a history. Found a good read about the game by The Verge. Game is scheduled to come out early next year for the PS4 and XBox first. PC and Switch later. No prices have yet been leaked.

HOW IS MONSTER HUNTER WORLD ANY DIFFERENT?

Well, where do you want to start? Judging by the trailer and brief press release, Monster Hunter World is the biggest overhaul yet for the series. It’s by far the most advanced on a technical level, and marks the first time that Capcom has developed a brand new Monster Hunter game for a system anywhere near this powerful — the original and 2 were on PS2 first, 3 came out on Wii, while 4 and Generations were developed for the 3DS. (I’m not counting the spin-off Monster Hunter Frontier MMOs.)

This doesn’t just mean that World is the prettiest Monster Hunter yet, although it undoubtedly is — it means that Capcom has been able to change major elements of how the game plays. World maps are no longer segmented, meaning you won’t come across any loading times when transitioning from one area to the next; Capcom says the environments feature a “living and breathing ecosystem” that can be used to your advantage.

The game does feature multiplayer, but it’s using a new drop-in system where you head into the world yourself and can send out flares to signal to other players that you’d like them to join in.

Two of my friends and I love this franchise. I'm personally hyped for it. However, that article seems to be slightly misleading by making it seem like multiplayer is restricted to only drop-in/call-ins.

In a separate interview, it was confirmed that you can form the groups prior to starting a quest just like in the old games. It'll also have dedicated servers and release in the same time frame as the Japanese version so everyone can play together.

The game itself is not a spinoff and is being developed by the main MH team, so as of now, I have 100% faith in it.

So the PS4 and Xbox Asian accounts added to the total population is excellent news to start. The ability to form groups freely too.

Is this something that can be played 100% solo?

I wasn't familiar with this when the trailer was being played so I was hoping it was a Dragon's Dogma game, but either way it looks pretty damn epic.

Definitely. Past games have included a single-player story mode (albeit a bit bare bones) and even outside of that, the multiplayer quests are addictive in the sense that you're always grinding for new gear and can be played solo if you so please.

Re: Monster Hunter World (PS4, XBOX1, Switch, PC)

Monster Hunter: World has High Rank story quests, temporary monster companions, more

Quote:
Quest Rank Structure

Tokuda: “We do have the same sort of Low Rank, High Rank structure, but in the older titles when you go to High Rank, the story was no longer a concern, but this time we want to make sure the story continues on a thread throughout High Rank. One big difference in the structure is that there’s no longer a separation between village hall and gathering hall quests—that distinction doesn’t exist anymore. You get a quest and you can choose whether to play it solo or online.”

Ryozo: “I think we’ve made a nice, meaty story for you guys and as mentioned, it’s something that carries throughout the entire game, so it should be a lot of fun.”
Quote:
Downloadable Quests

Ryozo: “We’re going to continue with [the series’ traditional] free downloadable content support, but one difference coming to home console is that in the past, for portable consoles you would download the quest yourself, to your own console, but when we have a home console, we have the opportunity to do something like a time limited quest where people have to jump on during a certain time to do the quest. We have more creative opportunities for how to bring you the downloadable content.”
Quote:
16-Player Lobby

Tokuda: “The lobby is 16 players. You have your gathering area where you can see them on screen, in their hunter garb, but even when you’re not in the gathering area and are out in the hub town, visiting shops and things, the chat is persistent even if you can’t see them. When you return to the gathering hall, you’ll see everyone is there, you can talk to them, choose a quest, and head out.”
