Question about Story Mode

Is it true that you can't play in the NFL? I've been hearing this as of late, if so, why?

Yes it's true. Longshot is an origin story that features multiple levels of football such as pop warner and college football. Rex said in an interview Longshot is a "mass appeal" item and they might do a season 2 in m19 ala Alex Hunter in fifa or progress more like my career in 2k. Hope that helps

Re: Question about Story Mode

It's in the title. The story is about the character being a "longshot" to get drafted. Thus, if you get drafted, the story is over.

Everyone here keeps bringing this up as a complaint (not calling you out, just speaking in general), but you're a longshot to get drafted. Why would there be any NFL games in this story, when NFL games aren't the point of this story?

Bc the main selling point of the game is the NFL, meaning that those of us who like story modes in sports game get the short end of the stick this year not getting to play in NFL games

I understand that this is the first step of a long series (if the consumer likes it). And next year they will continue the story. And there are multiple "endings" based from your choices.

But I think that they will say, "Well the players only tried it for a couple of hours and quit, then they went back to MUT or Franchise Mode, so they don't want a storyline based mode.".

But I don't think that they will understand that the people that want an open College to Canton storyline mode, in which you can create yourself as a player, and choose your path, position, attitude, etc.. And have your decisions produce either positive or negative repercussions (both on and off the field).

Ex: If during one of your College gameday interviews you say, "The coaches didn't have anything to do with our win, it was all about me!" or, "We won because we played well, things turned around when I threw that 80 yard TD." Or even "The Coaches put together a great game plan, and we as a team, put it together to win the game.". You should have some of the scouts kinda take that into consideration. Because there is a difference between being cocky, confident, and being non-confrontational.

I think the majority of the people that have been wanting a storyline based experience, didn't want to play as someone who that don't know or care about. They don't want to be steered into a fixed storyline, that they don't have a lot of control over. And they definitely wanted to be able to play an NFL game.

Not true, I'm fine with a pre-created player. That's how it often is in other games like NBA story mode. And I'm great with a fixed storyline so long as there are branches to that tree based upon what you say, your decisions and how you play.

But yeah, being able to play in the NFL would be ideal. It's going to be sort of odd to put so much heart and soul into a character, get draft and then...that is it, its over.

I would hope at least EA will read your Madden 18 save file if they continue the story into Madden 19 so our hard work, our choices and such are not for nothing when/if we finally are able to play in the NFL.

Re: Question about Story Mode

I think I will play the story mode before I start my franchise while waiting for the first patch as we all know something will need to be fixed. Then when I start my franchise I will create/edit the player to be in the franchise as best as possible. If we can edit draft classes that would be nice.

It still looks like it's going to be a pretty cool thing to do. Unfortunately it will be a one and done kind of deal. Maybe in the future they integrate it into CFM, which would be awesome.

I would hope that they eventually integrate this into Franchise mode. I LOVED the Madden 12 drafts, with guys like Pop Warren, for example. But once Franchise started it's like their stories vanished. So, ideally they could take what they've got going with Longshot and integrate it into CFM down the road. That would be awesome, because as we all know, the players are what brings NFL fans as much as the teams.
