Wouldn't it be nice... defensively...

If we had "close-out intensity" as a defensive option? That would create the ability to run players off of the three point line and open up swing ball movement and rotations as well as over plays.

I always have a million ideas that I never post (as we all likely do) but watching playoff ball demanded that I post this. This is more important in today's game than some of the options that we currently have as it's a primary defensive strategy and the initial decision to identify before putting the rest of the gameplan into play.

What other defensive options would you like to see added to defensive strategies or to tendencies?

Pretty cool idea man they should really put that idea in the game.

Spot on, this has to be incorporated due to the way the game has changed. I'm a rockets fan so this really makes sense to me lol

dont understand what you want to implement to be honest. you want an Option that your closeouts are more aggressive? cant you Control it by either sprinting fullspeed at an opponent or on the opposite go out more slowly?

We also really really need ride the hip animations on defense.

I shouldn't have to automatically post up when i try to drive to the basket because there are no defensive animations in the game to stop the drive

If you are controlling that ONE defender... there should be a setting for ur CPU counterpart just as there are settings for each individual assignment.

If I'm playing the Rockets I would like to set my close out intensity to aggressive for Anderson, Lou, Gordon and Ariza and maybe something different for Harden because he attacks too and Beverly and other non-shooters to help create my initial defensive scheme.

That's how a defensive game plan starts. If playing say the Warriors; being to set "close-out intensity" to aggressive for Klay & Curry, medium for Durant because he likes to put the ball on the floor but can still shoot and low for Draymond because he is not a deadly 3 point threat and o can keep that man back to protect the rim would be an ideal strategy.

In short, the game is currently setup to prioritize individual matchups first when allowing "close-out" settings would allow a "individual" setting that still set a team concept. The way the settings currently are u give up the paint like hooker gives up"..." if you choose to jam and ride shooters because the settings are based off of how close they are instead of close out intensity.

Real life basketball has three first agendas that are not currently represented in 2k and if "close-out intensity" was added it would remedy those right off the bat:

1 - almost all players in The NBA are essentially pressured "tight" (how intensely they close out on rotations determined by how good of a shooter they are)

2 - in the NBA if a play breaks down or their is paint action the PRIMARY agenda is to protect the paint so you see people naturally "dig" if the action is on their side (if this was programmed properly we would less of those loopy crammed passed to the interior and lost defenders and "close-out" intensity would determine their recover to shooters who are a priority

3 - in real life; how hard you close out and who you close out to DETERMINES your defensive rotations which is currently a sore sport for the game (there are no actual defensive rotations in the game currently which is why we see a lack of perimeter ball swinging as players close out to them)

Essentially in real life perimeter defense is primarily how hard you close out to specified players not how tightly you guard a player because all players are guarded tightly.

Harder close outs (and the ability to set that intensity) would provide more blow-bys, more ball NATURAL ball movement on the perimeter as open jumpers come from ball movement, (not how closely each defender is guarding someone while the ball is in their hands) and a true ability to protect the paint... just like real life.

EDIT: would also aid peoples concern with deadeye shooters as that ability would be showcased more in draw and kick situations instead of off of the dribble.

Re: Wouldn't it be nice... defensively...

2K essentially created a massive code problem imo. They make the most realistic sim basketball experience but in doing so there are even more holes/areas and underlying problems to address. The more realistic its made, the more issues on back end will need to be addressed to account for the movement/animations. However, for a game pulling in millions, there is no excuse.

When the game was simpler, ala Nba Live, there were some major issues but less minor **** because it wasnt as deep

Re: Wouldn't it be nice... defensively...

I hope 2k fixes block shots vs block dunks. When going for a dunk in real life you never get blocked from behind, cause it's the strongest attack in basketball. And too many online players just spam the x button or y button and just jump out position and knock the ball out of a players hand when dunking. 2nd thing is the contest button doesnt seem to work compared to the steal button when attempting to make players miss shots. Again in pro am and in PNO users just spam the x button for defense and it works, instead of playing good positional defense and contest a shots with a hand up. Lastly defenders should not be rewarded when they jump early and out of position by knocking the ball out of the offensive players hands on the way down from his bad block attempt. There should also be a button to steal the ball, and a separate button to grab a pass out of the air on defense, I believe this will make players think on defense and not just spam the x button which is to swipe at the ball to get a steal and not to grab the pass out of the air or to make him miss under the rim.
