The commentary still needs work

every sports game franchise copied (stole) MLB's rpg format with RTTS - madden's superstar mode and 2K's My Player...well, it's time SCEA copied some of their commentary formats

- too much dead air during AB's...in real life commentators banter and have small talk...NBA 2k has mastered this

- dry and stale commentary and not conversational - even if you use matt vasgersians 4 or 5 year old V.O. work, have pleasac and reynolds in a booth together going over situations..it sounds like they all recorded these lines months apart from each other in their own homes

- also, I heard dan pleasac basically echoing lines from previous versions; why have new commentators if they're just re-hashing lines from last years game?

Re: The commentary still needs work

I made a long post about commentary once, and made a little point in the middle of all of it that was basically this:

They need shorter lines.

Doing this will give them more memory to work with, and it could be used in a way for them to program certain lines to be stitched together as needed.

Here are two parts of my post that shows examples on how conversation works much more... conversationally this way. First one is a made up dialogue among the three commentators:

Quote:
Matt: "Lines it! ... but there's Wright. One out."
Harold: (2 sec later) "That was scorched."
Dan: (1 sec later) "Got the inside pitch he wanted, just not the result."
Harold: "I bet he'll want that one back." (pause) "Still early on in the game, he's got another shot."
Dan: "Doubt he'll get it again..."
Matt: "Here's Werth now."

This second one is an actual line from the game. The underlined portions are what could be changed to whatever they want based on the situation at play:

Quote:
"Matt, they're on one of those hot streaks, I mean everything is going right for them. They're playing great baseball right now. I mean timely hitting, the bullpen is coming through, it looks like they're rested... they're doing the things they need to do to be a winning club right now."
However the issue, all the same, is that that is one recorded line from HR. That's taking up several other lines that could be used as well. The lines just need to be shorter, and there need to be more algorithms in play to stitch bits together if they need to.

Yeah, this still does need improvement, its not where near that of NBA2k17. Its improved this year, but it has a long way to go, to get to the level NBA2k has with their basketball game.

Im sure once you get deeper into Franchise mode, is when you will see the biggest difference, but I know right now just playing play now games, while waiting for them to fix some issues with a patch, that you hear the same thing over and over each game.

Someone said they referenced Tals Hill in Houston but it's gone this year.

I'm just really tired of them saying my pitcher's height...

what's crazy to me is that in NBA2k they actually show you how they recorded the V.O. - Brent Barry and Kevin Harland are sitting there together, watching gameplay footage, commenting on it, and then just having ordinary casual conversation to just fill dead space.

It sounds really bizarre just listening to dead space in between pitches like this - if there is one thing this series lags behind other sports games it's definitely the commentary, this is PS3 stuff here.

Yeah certain pitchers they say it every...single..time.

It just feels like there are less lines in general this year, so a lot of repeats. I guess with 2 new guys in the booth they didn't have as much time to record and accumulate lines.

I agree with Blzer: they just need to add more non-player specific, filler-type stuff.
