Night skies

I first brought this up in the Presentation Twitch Stream thread (with picture examples, comparisons, and edits), but it wasn't quite the right place to talk about it. Now that the game is out, consider this to fall right into any other wishlist.

I know this is something I've been hoping for as a change since they've implemented time-of-day progression back in MLB '09: The Show. They just haven't ever quite gotten night skies right. Not back then, and not now. For all that they do have good, this is the one lacking part.

And I don't mean the pitch black skies, I mean the transition after sunset. As of the PS4 generation, they have presented a yellow/brownish sky, which I don't really believe is something possible to see on a side of the sky that the sun is not on (at least when the skies are clear). Other colors will present themselves (mostly blue), but what they have just doesn't quite seem right.

I could provide all of the picture examples in the world, but instead I will present two GIFs: as it is and "as it should be" (note that what I have isn't perfect because I'm working off The Show's gradients, but alas it doesn't look too bad all the same).

In case that is moving too quickly, here are a few stills from those GIFs.

Some people see this as a small thing. I think it's pretty big, considering all of us see this when we hit and most franchise games are at night. I don't know what it will take on their end, but every time before the year they mention they are working on lighting, I'm always hoping the skies are a part of what they are looking at.

And I think this is just phase one. They've lit the players much better this year, but now the field and stadiums need that kind of illumination that they get as well. Sure there are dark spots here and there, but Busch Stadium at night surely gets a lot more than they are showing here.

(speaking of blue skies)

Though that is for a different topic, I suppose (unless this thread is about all nighttime scenery whatsoever).

EDIT: For comparison's sake, I lit up some signage and environments on the field to slightly match that shot more. Just to kind of bring us to that feel a little more. I didn't brighten the seats much though.

Re: Night skies

There is also a bug where if you start out the game with overcast skies, there is no gradual shift from day into night. The game will abruptly shift from one inning with plenty of light (obscured of course by the overcast clouds) to pitch black night time.

Re: Night skies

Minor leagues it feels as if you are playing in the middle of nowhere in some parks and at night it is pitch black..

Moonlight would be nice to have...

It should get pitch-black at night, though. That's what the ambient light does to the sky outside of the stadium... once you get to that point at night.

Having the moon would be nice, though. Maybe if they had the moon's cycle.

Re: Night skies

Can't agree with this more. It's better than a few years back when it was a more saturated "end of the world" yellow, but I'd love it if they changed it up for next year so the dominant sky color in transition sequence was blue. Light blue to dark blue sky, pink and yellow almost entirely in a gradient from the sunset, with a little more use as highlights in the clouds? It'd look beautiful.

The moon cycle would be awesome now that there is night and day..especially a full moon with those moving clouds..

Yeah, I suppose you are right, it should be pitch black the more pictures I see

Re: Night skies

I could be wrong but I feel like the lighting timing is off by one inning especially at night.
