Struggling to setup conferences properly

I am trying to run with two different ideas in the same league. They are a modified Airplane Conference and an All-Texas Conference

This is how the two conferences look on their own.

Airplane:
East: Air Force, Army, Duke, Miami, Navy, Penn State
West: California, Notre Dame, Stanford, UCLA, USC, Washington

All-Texas Conference:
East: Houston, North Texas, Rice, SMU, Texas, Texas A&M
West: Baylor, TCU, Texas Tech, Texas State, UTEP, UTSA

Now, I'm struggling to figure out where they should go. There aren't enough conferences with good bowl bids out there. What I am planning so far is the Big 12 hosts the All-Texas Conference while the American hosts the Airplane Conference.

If you could help with setting this up, that would be great.

Something to note: I use Montana and Montana State as Teambuilder teams and like older historical conferences, as in the WAC from the 70s, or the Big 8, not that they have to stay, more as I don't like the modern conferences.

I know that this won't answer your question, but I felt that I needed to let you know this... instead of having conferences play in certain bowl games, turn that feature off. You just go into Custom Conferences at the end of the season and go to Bowl Games and choose Any for every big bowl game.

What this does is it makes sure that the best teams play each other. Number 1 will play number 2 for the title, number 3 will play number 4, 5 will play 6 and I can't recall how far down it goes... it may be the Top 10 or 12, but you won't get unrealistic bowl games anymore like the number 3 team playing some team that went 7-5.

It definitely creates a more exciting and dynamic bowl season for you!

I think you misunderstand. I know you can change the BCS bowl tie-ins.

I meant that there're only 5, maybe 6, conferences with good non-BCS bids. Unless you have an editor, which I don't since I use Teambuilder teams, those lower bowl tie-ins don't change.

Big Ten/Pac-12 for the Airplane conference

Big 12 for the Texas Conference.

Re: Struggling to setup conferences properly

I have done something pretty similar in my current dynasty.
Like you, the Big 12 became an all Texas conference, i just split the divisions to North and South.
I then took the American and created 16 team Super Conference. One division is the old Big 8, the other the Big East (with the alignment from around 2010)
I've been having a blast with this set-up playing as Pitt.

Huh. I never tried that.

What I ended up doing was something like this.

ACC: Boston College, Clemson, Georgia Tech, Maryland, NC State, North Carolina, Virginia, Virginia Tech, Wake Forest

Lone Star Texas Conference (American):
East: Houston, North Texas, Rice, SMU, Texas, Texas A&M
West: Baylor, TCU, Texas State, Texas Tech, UTEP, UTSA
CCG @ Old Cotton Bowl

Big 12:
Mountain: BYU, Colorado, Colorado State, Oklahoma State, Utah, Wyoming
Plains: Iowa State, Kansas, Kansas State, Missouri, Nebraska, Oklahoma
CCG @ Sports Authority Field

Big Ten: Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Michigan State, Minnesota, Northwestern, Ohio State, Purdue, Wisconsin

C-USA:
East: Cincinnati, ECU, Louisville, Marshall, UCF, USF
West: Louisiana Tech, Memphis, Southern Miss, UAB, Tulane, Tulsa
CCG @ Birmingham Bowl

Independents: Boise State, Connecticut, Florida State, Fresno State, Pitt, Rutgers, San Diego State, San Jose State, Syracuse, Temple, UMass, UNLV, Utah State, West Virginia

MAC:
East: Akron, Bowling Green, Buffalo, Kent State, Miami (OH), Ohio
West: Ball State, CMU, EMU, NIU, Toledo, WMU
CCG @ Ford Field

MWC:
North: Idaho, Montana, Montana State, Oregon, Oregon State, Washington State
South: Arizona, Arizona State, Hawaii, Nevada, New Mexico, New Mexico State
CCG @ San Boyd Stadium

Premier Athletic Conference (Pac-12):
East: Air Force, Army, Duke, Miami, Navy, Penn State
West: California, Notre Dame, Stanford, UCLA, USC, Washington
CCG @ Best Conference Record

SEC:
East: Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Tennessee, Vanderbilt
West: Alabama, Arkansas, Auburn, LSU, Miss State, Ole Miss
CCG @ GeorgiaDome

Sun Belt: Arkansas State, Georgia State, Mid Tennessee State, South Alabama, Troy, ULL, ULM, Western Kentucky

BCS Tie-ins:

Rose Bowl:
Big Ten vs Premier Airplane Conference

Fiesta Bowl:
Big 12 vs Mountain West

Sugar Bowl:
SEC vs At-Large

Orange Bowl:
ACC vs At-Large

Lone Star Texas Conference gets a bid to any BC bowl.

I like a lot of independents, and I liked the way the non-editable Bowl tie-ins worked out. The logos don't feel weird in this set up and Conference numbers sorta make sense.
