Is there hope for me?

Each video soccer year for me turns out pretty much the same way, rage quitting the game out of frustration because I suck so bad.

I go through the trainings, I play a ton of games, yet still I cannot stop my opponent from prancing through my ranks and pelt whatever keeper with up to 20 shot per game (I play 10-minute halves). On the other side, I cannot ever get in more than 2-5 shots per game.

Is there something I can do or realize something I'm missing, or should I just accept the fact I suck and just move on and quit bothering people? Thanks.

Once i had been going through a period of comparable strife, the way i decided to improve my gameplay was to analyze football games, preferrably in a competition where the defensive organization is prioritized, for that's the first thing a player needs to get right if he wants to be taken seriously by the CPU.

Also due to the fact that getting your defense right is much more difficult than being offensively hazardous.

So if you find your self unable to perform [as realistically] as you'd want to, the key is to study how professionals behave.

It took me a while before i became able to implement the knowledge i'd gathered through studious observation & analysis, but after a while i started to get the hang of it, and began to perform much more similarly to how actual players tend to peform in the situations i happened to find my self in.

So what do you think?

Or perhaps you're not someone who enjoys watching football?

Then you're flucked, and there's indeed no hope for you. he he

I agree wholeheartedly.

Keeping your shape on defense is the absolute key. Take it easy with the pressing (if you are) and rely on your teams shape. Once you get stretched out of position, the cpu is going to finish you. If you are using legacy defending then use the secondary press sparingly.

Keep your shape...Keep your shape...Keep your shape...Trust in your shape.

Play 15 min halves if you can. You wont feel rushed to make risky attacks because you are rushed for time. Try to retain more possession and don't give the ball away cheaply.

Sprint less in both attack and defense. Players make poor passes and shots when sprinting on offense, and you will consistently overrun your opponent when sprinting in defense. Also practice using the 'hold off' controls in order to buy time to find an open teamate.

Try the OS community sliders too. They have made big improvements to teammate positioning and reactions with their current set.

Or you could do what I do, which is regularly ignore all of my own advice, chase the ball like a rabid dog, and just enjoy getting punched in the face nearly every match!

I'm sorta in a similar boat, but maybe not quite as extreme. The OS community sliders can help a fair bit in terms of positioning, which helps.

Also, I think legacy defending is the way to go too. As jimmy said, trust your shape....play solid positional defense, focus on cutting off passing angles (instead of repossessing the ball as quick as possible) and make only moderate use of secondary pressure. If you try to play this like hockey, it is going to be a painful experience.

Longer half length so you don't feel rushed is another solid suggestion.

I feel with longer half times I just give up more goals myself! I can get through the first half without conceding but I can't hold them off in the 2nd.

I don't think I'm flucked, I love watching football. I am a man on island when it comes to watching but I do in fact analyze games. On defense I am not always the man on the ball. By default I will take the player assigned and play his assigned area and responsibility. I just hate watching my cpu teammates position themselves pathetically and allow a dribbler to undress them. Like I said, I am a novice but willing to learn.

Re: Is there hope for me?

Solid advice, thank you Josh, Intro, and Jimmy. The good thing about all of this is that I love playing the game regardless; isn't that what's all about? And I like to get punched in the face too, which apparently isn't the way to go. My defensive approach is like watching the fat kid on the playground playing keep away.
