Blacktop Shot Timing Help Needed

So it's pretty obvious that the shot meter, shot feedback and what actually happens don't add up at least for me. The shot feedback will tell you it's a horrible release yet it hits all net. You try and use the meter and fill it damn near perfect and every shot bounces off. You watch the shooter and let go of square when his hand is coming forward and make a sweet three. But looking at the meter afterwards shows it filled all the way and was actually going back in the other direction.

My thoughts are that when you have an online game that requires accuracy but also suffers from server and button lag, you need to have a little larger window when it comes to acceptable timing. Just curious what method the sharpshooters around here use. Do you use the meter or do you watch the shooter?? My thought is that when the shooter is at the top of his release is when the shot should be taken and the percentage should be the greatest. The problem is that I just don't see that happening on a consistent basis.

Thanks!
