Re: #OSFM 17: Chicago White Sox

Would like to see Curbelo added.

As for ratings, Kopech should be a top 15-20 prospect in baseball, I put his potential in my game to 89.

And Burdi I had about 92 potential as a reliever, because he has a gigantic fastball (103 mph this year) and good control given how huge that fastball is, two of the most important things any great reliever would have. He profiles as an Aroldis Chapman type ceiling, and that's what potential is, right? If prospect rankings did just relievers, I'd imagine he would be a top 3 relief prospect in baseball.

I really want to get Curbelo (or Nunez) in too, but there may be too many needed to fill out the rosters, especially if Quintana is dealt.

I think a 92 is a little high for Burdi, especially if he's got a better potential than Kopech. Don't get me wrong, he's one of my favorite prospects in the system but he is not quite an elite prospect. I usually save the 90's for guys who appear in the top 10 lists (Moncada, Giolito, etc), and I don't think Burdi could be a headliner in a blockbuster.

I could see bumping him up to a 82 potential. Potential can fluctuate up/down on performance, so I always use a +/-5 rule. And look at the potentials for what the game rates similar players in Bruce Rondon (78) and Keone Kela (80). I'm curious to see where Jose Leclerc comes in '17. They have almost identical minor league stats and are in the same age group.

Any chance you'd be able to add extra guys to the vault when the time is right? What I did this year was drop the older minor league fodder type guys like Sands, Campana, Volstad and replaced them with younger depth guys.

Every year I say I'm going to, and every year I seemly drop the ball. I'll try to get some extras in there earlier this year.

But I don't see potential (or overall) as being equal from every position on the field. You can't value a 95 reliever higher than a 94 starter. IMO, relievers are rated against each other, so while I think Burdi is a 92 potential versus an 89 for Kopech, I am not comparing the two players as Kopech at 89 is far more valuable than Burdi at 92.

However, after looking at ratings of the games top closers, I didn't realize how few were above 92. I expected to see Jansen at like 96, Chapman around 94, and a couple others at 90-93. But that wasn't the case. So I think I would revise him to an 88 potential in my game.

But you didn't comment on Kopech being only an 85. By your own standards, you save players rated in the 90s for the top 10 prospects in baseball. Kopech will likely show up around 15-20 on most lists, thus a high 80s rating seems appropriate. Not that 85 is far off, just figured a top 5 pitching prospect in baseball would land somewhere around 90.

Your absolutely right on Kopech, especially after his great AFL showing. I agree he needs to be higher (I was worried I was going to over valued him). I initially planned on putting him at 89, but I held off out of fear of people calling me a homer.

What do you think about Hansen? I originally had him at a 83, but felt he needed to drop a few because his floor is so incredibly low. He's a tricky case because he lost a lot of stock this year with his terrible college performance and lit it up once he started playing pro ball. I don't know if 80 is too low, but that does equate to a #3-4 type of starter or high-end reliever.

Re: #OSFM 17: Chicago White Sox

White Sox just signed Everth Cabrera to a minor league deal. He didn't play in the majors last year so he'll need to be created if you plan on adding him (just carry him over).
